Get to know Milan (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Milan.

 Parco Sempione.

Milan is the capital of the region of Lombardy in Italy, has a rich cultural heritage, a vibrant nightlife, and is recognized as Italy’s fashion capital.

If you are looking for a hostel in Milan, it is best to stay in the city center or one of the surrounding boroughs (around Porta Magenta, Porta Genova, Porta Ticinese, PortaVigentina, or Porta Vittoria), since this is where most of the sights are located. Be aware that Milan is a quiet expensive city and hostel prices can be pretty steep.

Getting around in Milan is not a problem, there is an extensive public transport system consisting of trams, buses, subway, and trolley buses. Milan is served by three airports. Malpensa Airport is about 50 km from the city and is served by the Malpensa express railway service. Linate Airport is within city limits and is mainly used for domestic flights. Bergamo Airport is mainly used by low-cost carriers and can be reached by train.

Once you are there and settled in your Milan hostel, be sure to walk around the city center, admire the stunning Dome of Milan, and visit one of the excellent museums such as Galleria d'Arte Contemporanea (Gallery of Contemporary Art), Museo Bagatti Valsecci which displays Italian Renaissance art, or Pinacoteca di Brera which shows paintings by Tintoretto, Caravaggio, and others. See Leonardo da Vinci’s β€œLast Supper” on display in Santa Maria delle Grazie. Try to catch a performance at the famous La Scala, go shopping on Via della Spiga, and eat some traditional Panettone.
