Babila Hostel & Bistrot Reviews

Babila Hostel provides an exceptional quality of hostel experience with new facilities in central Milan, though it has a premium price to match.

The Location

Babila Hostel is housed within an Italian Tudor-style building, located in the central San Babila area of Milan. There are ample shopping and dining options nearby. The hostel is within a twenty-minute walk of tourist attractions including the Duomo, Teatro alla Scala, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and Fashion Quad area. The nearby metro station of San Babila offers connections to the airport, train, and bus stations.

Rooms and Bathrooms

This hostel offers seventeen rooms, including private twin rooms and dorm rooms for four to six people (mixed or female), all with private, en suite bathrooms.

The rooms are on multiple levels of the building, accessible via elevator or stairs. The hostel is quite new and facilities are in great condition. The bunk beds are sturdy and have quality mattresses and white linens. There are individual power sockets and reading lights at each bed.

Electronic key cards are provided for access into the building and the rooms. For security, there are medium-sized lockers for each person in the dorm rooms, with keys supplied; these lockers fit carry-on sized baggage, but not full suitcases.

The en suite bathroom we experienced for a six-bed dorm has one toilet and a generous two showers, with rainfall shower heads as well as hoses for the ample hot water. There isn’t space inside the shower cubicles to change, but it is possible to lock the bathroom or change in the toilet cubicle. Towels are provided.

Common Spaces

There is a bar/bistro area on the ground floor, with bar stools, tables, chairs, and some lounge seats. Complimentary breakfast is served here each morning, including cereals, croissants, fruit, and juice. The bar/bistro also has drinks at happy hour and meal service in the evenings, with discounts for guests. There were also events for non-guests being held there during our stay, so the opportunity to socialise with fellow guests can vary each evening.

There is a self-catering kitchen on the third level for guest use, with new facilities and decent-sized refrigerator for food storage. The kitchen opens onto a balcony terrace area with seating. Finally, there is a television room with table soccer and lounge chairs available for use; these appeared under-used during our stay, possibly as these spaces aren’t mentioned by staff on check-in.

Free W-Fi works well throughout the hostel. Some added hostel features include free luggage storage, gym access, pet-friendly options, and laundry service for a fee.

Summary

Babila Hostel is a top-quality hostel, though this is reflected in the accommodation cost, which is higher than the Italian average for dorm beds. One negative point to mention is that despite check-out being at 11a.m., cleaning of the rooms commences promptly at 9:30 a.m., which can cause a rude shock to guests sleeping in late.
