Ba, Fiji, is a town located in the north of Vitu Levu, the country's largest and most-populated island. Around seventy percent of the population lives on this island, which covers an area of over ten thousand square kilometres. International travelers usually arrive at Nadi International Airport on Vitu Levu.
Ba is not a beach town; in fact, it is about fifteen kilometres away from the shores. Getting to Ba is quiet easy. You have two options -- you can rent a car or take one of the shared taxis, which are very popular on Fiji. The ride takes around one hour.
Surprisingly, football is very popular in Ba. Usually Rugby Union is the most popular sport on the island. The main reason for this popularity is the successful local football club Ba F.C., playing in the top division in Fiji. If you like football, try to get some tickets -- the stadium of the Men in Black has a capacity of more than thirteen thousand.
The climate on Vitu Levu is tropical marine. The maximum temperatures hover around thirty degrees Celsius all year round. The wet season is usually from November to April. The winds on the island are moderate. Keep an eye on the weather, because cyclones occur around once a year.
The area offers some resorts, guesthouses, and hostels in Ba, Fiji. Free Wi-Fi is not always included (and the connection can be really slow). Ba, Fiji hostels may offer some additional features, such as a restaurant and BBQ facilities. The accommodations are surrounded by unspoilt nature; your Ba, Fiji hostel could be located right at the beach.
If you want to get to know the traditional culture and find out what traditional architecture on Fiji looks like, check out Navala Village, which is around twenty-five kilometres south of the town in the Ba Highlands. The fully traditional settlement is well-known for its more than two hundred thatched buildings. Ba Civic Museum was opened within a few years of this writing; various exhibits show the history of the Ba township development, sporting achievements, and the sugarcane industry.
