The Hostelz.com Review
Arriving in Kyleakin, you'll find the Kyleakin Youth Hostel along the main strip just over the bridge, just across the street from the water. The building is blue and white -- tough to miss, and flanked by a couple of pubs.
Walking inside, you'll see a large common area to the left, and reception toward the right, where you'll also find internet access for a very reasonable price. Decorations inside consist of light colours and Scottish Clan crests with their Latin and English mottos. The reception area is also home to several maps, tourist brochures, and discount cards for food and drink to the pubs in the area. Next to the common room is a large and well appointed kitchen which is open till 11 p.m.
There are large, dorm-style rooms, as well as smaller private rooms available. Toilet and shower facilities are sparse, but work well for the size of the hostel. The hostel is very clean and comfortable.
The hostel seems to be run by the owners, whose young boy can be found running around the common area talking to the travelers. The staff is courteous and helpful.

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews

Lots of interesting late-night chats with the night wardens! If ever traveling to Kyleakin for a night out or needing to stopover before catching the train to Inverness next day, I always stayed here. Staff are Glasgwegian friendly (sometimes you need to take it with a grain of salt!) and fairly laid back. They have made allowances for me on more than one occasion and I often noticed the manager going out of his way to help people out. I think it's sad that it's going to be closing down and Kyleakin SYHA will always have a special place in my heart. — Hector , Australia (2007-09-28)

Affordable, good location, and helpful staff Kyleakin's SYHA Youth Hostel is affordable and clean. The views from right out the front door can be spectacular (the best sunset I saw in Scotland). The location puts you nearby a couple of good places to eat and drink. A short walk down the pier affords a good view of Castle Moil. The staff was very helpful in recommending that we walk to the train station in Kyle of Lockalsh to catch the 7:25 a.m. bus to Inverness rather than taking the bus, warning that the bus was not that reliable. Sure enough, we made it, but the bus didn't. They even came to our room and woke us at 6 a.m. because our travel alarm had broken. — Jae Evans , United States (2007-06-21)

Kyleakin is a good place to stay, with buses to Fort William, Inverness, Glasgow and elsewhere in Skye stopping right outside the door. The few restaurants in Kyleakin village are within walking distance. Kyleakin Youth Hostel has a fair-sized kitchen and eating area. It has two laundry machines. Staff are welcoming. There is one small convenience store in the village, and a large co-op two miles away across the water in Kyle of Lochalsh. At the time of writing, the shuttle service across the bridge was suspended; inquire locally about buses.
In summary, this is a convenient stage post for further travel around Skye or elsewhere in Western Scotland. — Guido Blokland (2005-08-20)
