Once you've checked in at your Castelsardo hostel, the best thing to do in this gorgeous town is to wander around and get lost in its tiny and narrow streets and just soak in the atmosphere of the town that has remained unchanged for centuries. Upon reaching the top of the steep streets, you are rewarded with the views from the Castelsardo's Medieval castle, Castello dei Doria. It is worth having a look inside as well as the castle houses the Museo dell'Intreccio del Mediterraneo, an ethnographic museum specializing in local handicrafts. Walking further, one cannot miss Castelsardo's cathedral, perched on a terrace overlooking the sea, which provides the number one romantic location from which to watch the sunset.
If you are happy to venture further, you should not miss the little hill before the entrance of the town for the best views over the Gulf of Asinara and the town of Castelsardo. It is also outside the town that you can find the Elephant Rock, a famous rock formation that resembles a sitting elephant with its snout lifted up.
It is worth timing your vacation for the Easter holidays, as the Catholic traditions are still very much alive in this hidden corner of the island and the series of spectacular processions are sure to be of interest for everybody.
