Porto Spot Hostel

The Hostelz.com Review

Porto Spot Hostel offers a great stay. It is recommended for solo or small groups.

The Location

This hostel is in a great location and very easily found within the city from the main bus and train stations. The transport system in Porto is well set up and can be great for getting to and from places around the city. There are bus and metro stops close by to the hostel.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are located on the upper floors of the hostel. They are reached by stairs and can be entered only with a key card. Each level has dorm rooms plus male and female bathrooms. Within the dorm room, there are four solid bunk beds all with clean and fresh linen (pillow also). Each guest has a personal light and power point. There is one locker assigned per guest; these lockers have built-in locks and your key is given to you upon arrival. The locker is decent in size (it can fit a seventy-liter backpack) and is quiet to use. The bedrooms are light and fresh with windows on two sides. The room also has air conditioning, which helps to maintain the comfort of the space.

The bathrooms are located outside the dorm rooms but only across the hall. The female bathroom has three showers and two toilets. There are sufficient paper towels and toilet paper always. The showers are warm and have great pressure. There is no space within the shower cubicle to change, however there is plenty of room outside the cubicle in the main bathroom area. There are limited hooks for the showers.

Common Spaces

There are both indoor and outdoor common spaces at this hostel for guests to chat with others and meet new people. There are plenty of bench tables and seats outside for a beautiful morning breakfast (tables also have umbrellas), surrounded by shading vegetation. The indoor common area has a bar (drinks are always available and are reasonably priced), couches, PC for guests to use, and printing facilities if needed. There is a TV and entertainment system in this common area also.

There is a dining room with tables and chairs and lots of room to move, which joins with the communal kitchen. The kitchen has sufficient bench space and enough utensils for visitors to cook for themselves if they wish. There is a fridge and freezer for food storage as well as a coffee machine (free at breakfast but you must pay small fee to use after 11a.m.). The kitchen is clean and tidy and has recycling bins.

This hostel is great value for money. There is Wi-Fi throughout and a decent breakfast included each day. It is comfortable and clean and allows guests to get a nice rest in Porto. The staff are very happy and friendly people who are always willing to give advice or answer any questions that guests may have. The reception is open at all times, which makes the hostel feel more safe and flexible. There is also the option for guests to store their luggage at the hostel for free once checked out or before checking in if desired.

I did an reserve two months in advance, and one day before my check-in the organization called me and said that my reserve was canceled because of "a receiver error." I had to find another option, much more expensive. I called the management to find out what really was happening, but I noticed that they avoided any contact with me, they never tried anything to mitigate the damage caused by themselves. So I really think that there is some lack of professionalism, honesty and consideration for their clients. I don't recommend this hostel, at all.

Top 5 euro hostels
Staff welcomed us and gave us a thorough introduction to the hostel. Towels €1.5 lockers free. Rooms were bright and airy, heated, all bathroom facilities were clean and functional. They run a home cooked dinner for €7.50 (entree, main, dessert, drink) and it is a great way to meet other travelers. We had a top time here. Breakfast was included and beers are cheap at the bar with specials on some nights. Stoked we booked this place, thank you to Tanya and team.

Simply the best hostel I've been to.
The summary says it all. In all aspects, they hit it off the park. Nothing else to say really.
Fairly new to the scene, Porto Spot Hostel has a vibrant vibe, warm staff, clean facilities, and is easily accessible both from Trindade Metro Station and adjacent to the main shopping street of Porto. The daily home-cooked meals are a nice local touch -- they are specially made by the mother of one of the owners and an excellent way to sample the famous Porto cuisine. The Location The hostel is only six minutes' walk through the smaller exit of Trindade Metro Station, a key station that has connections to Porto's Airport. It is also adjacent to the northern end of Rua de Santa Catarina, one of Porto's most famous shopping districts. Rooms and Bathrooms Private rooms are available in this hostel on the ground floor. From a distant peek, they look suave and tastefully decorated -- similar to the rest of the hostel. Each room has secure key card access, and each dorm room is equipped with large, sturdy bed lockers that fit our slightly larger-than-normal cabin luggage with no problem. The communal bathrooms are bright and clean, with shelving space for your toiletries. If we gripe about anything in this hostel, it is that the size of the hooks outside the shower cubicles is insufficient for both your towels and clothes. Common Spaces The kitchen and breakfast bar is homey, well equipped, and free for common use. Drinks are well stocked, with a trustbox system and prices that are fairly reasonable. There is also a bar and open "courtyard" downstairs where drinks are served, with a TV lounge and games -- as well as two other common rooms (one a dedicated TV lounge and chillout area, the other an internet, library, and activity room). The clientele are friendly -- most of them during our stay were youngish backpackers, ranging from the overtly social to more reserved types, with a few families staying in the private rooms. The storage room is free to use, and also protected by key card access. Summary Overall, this is a warm and friendly hostel that is sociable, but not noisy. Twenty-four-hour reception staff are helpful locals with a good standard of English, and have excellent knowledge of what to do in Porto. The rooms are bright and airy with clean and comfortable beds. Sturdy lockers with locks are an added bonus, and overall the place is comfortable and easily accessible. The home-cooked food was a nice cherry to top it off -- overall we were made to feel very welcome here and would visit again.
