The Hostelz.com Review

Fundalucia hostel is an incredible, cozy, friendly place to relax and enjoy a Spanish countryside village while only being a twenty-minute bus ride away from Granada.

The Location

The hostel is a twenty-minute bus ride from downtown Granada to the village of Quentar, and the hostel provides excellent directions and maps to help. The hostel is on the hillside at the edge of the charming village, about twenty minutes' walking from where the bus drops you off through the village and up a hill, so try to pack light. There are a couple small shops in the village if you need to pick up supplies, but they close in the early evening.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel is in a renovated house and has a couple different rooms available. There is a large, four-person dorm with four single beds -- no bunks! There is a private twin that shares the common bathroom with the dorm, as well as two doubles -- one with a private bathroom and one that also shares the bathroom. The dorm room has individual lights at each bed, and a couple cabinets in which bags can be put. There are no lockers, but this is a very safe-feeling hostel. The only drawback to the dorm room is that it has only a tiny ventilation window, so it is rather dark inside, but it stays nice and cool in the summer.

The common bathroom is large, but the toilet and shower are in one room, so if someone is taking a shower, you may have to wait a while. The shower is large with great water pressure. There is a hanging caddie for toiletries in the shower and hooks outside to hang a towel and clothes.

Common Spaces

The hostel is well set up for places to relax and lounge around. The inside common area has a wood stove for winter visitors and chairs and tables to enjoy a meal or a book from the well-stocked book exchange. For summer visitors, the courtyard is a fantastic area to enjoy the view and the birdsong. There are benches, lounge chairs, patio chairs and tables, a hammock, and a fountain. In the hottest summer months, there is a nice-sized pool for guest use. The hostel has a superb kitchen area in which to cook a meal; there are snacks and drinks and breakfast items for sale on the honor system; and a free section of pasta, beans, herbs, and spices, oil, and tea and coffee. There is strong, free Wi-Fi inside the hostel and out in the courtyard.

Summary

Fundalucia is a superbly well-done hostel that is clean, comfortable, and a great place to relax and enjoy the Spanish countryside.
