Safestay Barcelona Gothic is a medium-sized hostel located in the middle of the Gothic district of Barcelona. The reception at the hostel has average friendliness, and the hostel is a relaxed environment where travelers can chill out. There are various tours offered by the hostel -- some free -- and there is paella served by the hostel a few nights per week. The atmosphere is not overly hospitable and there are many more hospitable hostels in Barcelona, however this hostel is recommended due to its location and fine amenities all around.

The Location

The location is central and within walking distance to many sights and conveniences around the city. There is a metro station within walking distance of the hostel as well as convenience stores and restaurants within reach. There are many churches and cathedrals in the immediate area to check out. The old architecture is nice to explore in the Gothic district.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorm rooms have bunk beds situated close together; each bunk has its own light and plug for charging devices. The hostel has is a relaxed atmosphere and many people are sleeping at all times. The bathroom is small but acceptable; the cleanliness is average to below average, but not unacceptable. The mattresses and bedding are clean and comfortable. The noise level is average except for trucks loading or unloading at random hours during the night or early morning hours.

Common Spaces

The main common area is a large lounge and eating area in the entrance of the hostel. It is comfortable, with many seating options, and breakfast is served there every morning for a fee. There is a bookshelf in the common area with various books, some that travelers have left for others to read. There is no real kitchen, only a microwave and toaster, as well as hot water heater. There is a fridge to buy beverages. Upstairs there is a common area for laundry with washer and dryer for a fee. The showers are also located outside the dorm rooms, near the common area, and are of average cleanliness. The showers are annoying because they do not stay on -- the button keeps needing to be pressed -- but there is ample hot water. There are lockers provided in the hallway of the common area.

Summary

Overall, this is an average hostel in an excellent neighborhood. It is recommended.

Free breakfast, free internet access, city information, tours, visits, tickets, offers to bars and restaurants of the city.

The dorms have individual and double modules, so people share while they keep their own privacy. Each module features an individual light, a plug, a locker and a night table.
