Selçuk is located in western Turkey in the Izmir region, and is just over a hundred kilometers from the port town Cesme, where you can catch ferries to the nearby Greek and Turkish Islands. The town is small, however it's extremely safe with great facilities.
Most people visit Selçuk to visit the well-preserved ruins of the Roman city of Ephesus. The ruins can be accessed by taxi, on foot (though the ruins are located eight kilometers out of town) or as part of an organised tour. There are plenty of tour agencies within the town that can help organise these trips, as well as trips to other nearby attractions. The tour agencies can also help with onward travel to other cities and sights, such as Pammukale or Istanbul.
There are many accommodation options in Selçuk, however you should try to book your Selçuk hostel in advance if visiting the town during the peak months (July and August), as the town gets very busy during these months. Accommodation is generally of very good standard, and most local people are extremely helpful (most are able to speak a good level of English, as well as German, particularly if working in the tourist industry). A Turkish breakfast, consisting of boiled egg, copious amounts of bread, jams, honey, tomato, and cucumber, is usually included in the price, as well as Wi-Fi, linen, towels, and sometimes toiletries. Most accommodation is located within the town center, and is in walking distance to plenty of shops, restaurants, post office, and tourist information.
