Hostels in Münster, Germany

Many people consider Münster the cultural centre of entire Westphalia region of Germany (with more than fifteen million residents, North Rhine-Westphalia is the most populated state in Germany), despite its relatively medium size when compared to the cities of Düsseldorf, Cologne, Dortmund, or Essen.

Besides its cultural significance, Münster is nowadays known as a student city, although it also has a very rich history that is just as interesting, if not more, than its present. There is some really amazing architecture -- the best way to experience Münster and relive its history is by taking a walk through the city centre and visiting one of the many museums and churches that the city has to offer. The one that stands out the most is without a doubt St. Paulus Dom, also simply known as Münster Cathedral. It is not only the city's main church, but one of the most important historical monuments in the region as well. A particularly famous feature is its unusual astronomical clock that runs counterclockwise and indicates hours and minutes simultaneously. On top of that and several other historical attractions, you can also check out Lake Aasee, the Botanical Garden, and All-Weather Zoo.

Münster is acknowledged as the bicycle capital of Germany and therefore offers an extensive cycling network and numerous bike rentals, however you can get around without one just fine. There is a good bus system with frequent connections that makes moving around fast and pleasant.

Unfortunately there aren't as many budget accommodations as you might expect, but you can still find one or two normally priced Münster hostel options. The best place to look for one is around the main train station as in that case you will be staying just a walk away from most of the city's major sights.
