Belize City is the former capital and largest city of Belize, located midway up the country on the Caribbean coast. Although the population is small (a mere seventy thousand residents), the city caries the feel, amenities, and atmosphere of a Caribbean capital such as Kingston, Jamaica, or Georgetown, Guyana. Belize City is easy to get to by air, land, and sea. The airport is easily accessible by a short cab ride from either the downtown core, bus station, or the ferry terminal. Buses go to and from the city with international destinations such as Cancun; Mexico; or Antigua, Guatemala. Local buses are a cheap and exciting way to get to smaller communities. The ferry terminal offers quick shuttles to touristy islands such as San Pedro, Caye Caulker, and Placencia.
