The Red Hut Inn is a hostel on the outskirts of Belize City. It is a clean quiet place with air-conditioned dorms and good Wi-Fi.
The Location
The hostel is located on the outskirts of Belize City in a quiet residential neighbourhood. The property can be reached by bus and walk or taxi. From the bus stop it is a ten-minute walk. An ATM, two grocery stores, and various shops are within walking distance. As this property is about halfway between the airport and downtown Belize City, a lot of people use it as a convenient location to stay one night when arriving by plane before moving on.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The eight-bed dorm room has four metal bunk beds and an en suite bathroom. The rooms are air conditioned with plenty of space and a TV. Furthermore, there is a small refrigerator in the dorm. The mattresses are good and the beds do not squeak. There are no lockers on the property and the dorm rooms as well as the rest of the property are not locked. The dorms and bathrooms are clean and the water in the shower is hot with good water pressure.
Common Spaces
The kitchen is very small and only equipped with the essentials and paper plates. There is a stove, an oven, and a microwave, although the latter is fairly temperamental and in need of repair. There is no refrigerator in the kitchen, but only a small one in the dorm room, which would struggle to contain cooking supplies if the dorm were fully booked. The terrace with lawn furniture and hammocks serves as the main common space. This is not a social hostel, but seems to mostly serve as a one-night-stopover for travelers going to/coming from the airport. There is a tiny book exchange in the reception area with about ten books. Drinks can be purchased in the reception area. There is the possibility to rent a motorized scooter and get laundry done.
Summary
This place does not feel like a hostel and seems to mostly serve one-night guests on their way somewhere else. The Wi-Fi works well throughout the property, but as the rooms are the only air-conditioned part, people do not mingle in the common areas.
