Hostelz Launches Social Score to Help Travelers Avoid Lonely Hostels

Hostelz has launched Social Score, a new feature designed to help travelers find hostels where it’s easier to meet people and connect with others.

For many travelers—especially solo travelers—the biggest fear isn’t bad Wi-Fi or small beds. It’s feeling lonely. Until now, there was no clear way to know if a hostel was actually social or just claimed to be.

Social Score changes that.

The new feature measures how social a hostel really is using real traveler behavior, verified feedback, and large-scale review data. This includes data from Hostelz users and external platforms such as Hostelworld, Booking.com, Google, and more.

Social Score runs from 0 to 100. For the first version, Hostelz highlights only hostels scoring 80 and above—places where travelers most often meet people and connect easily.

Unlike typical “AI summaries” found online, Hostelz does not use AI to invent opinions or write generic descriptions. Its AI works only with structured data, real reviews, and measurable signals to identify patterns related to social interaction, atmosphere, and traveler experience.

Travelers can now see the Social Score directly when searching any city on Hostelz. The feature is also available as a filter, allowing users to instantly find hostels that match a social, community-driven travel style.
