6.Sim cards:
If you’re anything like me, you probably want the optimal combination of cheap and good quality. I’ve researched tons of sim card providers and prices in Thailand, and I’ve always found the airport ones to be the most convenient to buy.
7.Meds:
I like to pride myself on having a stomach made of ice and fire, but I still managed to fall victim to food poisoning - and so did the majority of people I met while backpacking Thailand. My recommendation? Pack basic meds like painkillers, anti-diarrhea medicine (you’ll thank me later), and antihistamines. And make sure to have a bottle of electrolytes on hand - you can find them at any 7/11.
8.Scams:
Always ask your Bangkok hostel staff how much they think something should cost, from taxis and tuk-tuks to bus fares, including any item you might want to buy from a market. Also, make sure to always agree on a price before you board any type of vehicle: buses are fine as you can just hand them the fee you know you should pay, and for taxis, you don’t board if the driver doesn’t agree to turn on the meter. We also recommend using Google Maps to ensure that your taxi isn’t taking you on a while riding across the city for the sake of his meter calculator.
9.Temples and Culture:
If you’re exploring religious sites, make sure to look up the appropriate attire (most ask you to cover your chest and legs, and some will also ask to cover your arms). Remove your shoes before you enter the inside of a temple building or even someone’s house.
10.ATMs:
Thai banks charge around ฿200 (around 5.88USD) per transaction for withdrawals with a foreign bank card. You can also expect an additional fee charged by your home bank for a foreign withdrawal. We recommend either exchanging your money at a counter in your home country, withdrawing a large sum of money as soon as you land in Thailand, or trying to deal with a bank teller inside of a bank in Thailand instead of the ATM.
