Here are some tips (you'll find more at the end of this guide)
1.Location:
Navigating through this sprawling city may take a while, so choose a centrally-located hostel in Bangkok for easy access to top attractions and buzzing nightlife.
2.Khao San Road:
If you're looking for a Khao San road hostel, we recommend staying near Khao San Road instead of on it. The first reason is price-related, as hostels on the road are much more expensive. The second reason is that as much as you love partying, you will probably also need to sleep at some point.
3.Apps:
Grab and Gojek (the equivalent of Uber that also provides motorbike taxis), Google translate (unless you speak and read Thai, this can come in handy if you’re eating in makeshift restaurants by the road as they usually don’t have English menus), Line (the primary messaging app in Thailand, used by most businesses as well), WhatsApp (the secondary messaging app in Thailand).
4.Cash:
Although more and more businesses accept credit cards, you’ll find that most smaller establishments, massage parlors, road restaurants, and food markets only accept cash - so don’t miss out on a delicious meal or awesome purchase and make sure you have always carry some bills with you.
5.Insect repellent:
Mosquitoes in Bangkok come from a special place where they train them to suck your blood and buzz in your ear more efficiently. As such, chances are that your country’s insect repellent won’t work on them. Buy a THAI insect repellent as soon as you land instead; these will be specially formulated to keep your body as insect free as possible.

More tips!
6.Sim cards:
If you’re anything like me, you probably want the optimal combination of cheap and good quality. I’ve researched tons of sim card providers and prices in Thailand, and I’ve always found the airport ones to be the most convenient to buy.
7.Meds:
I like to pride myself on having a stomach made of ice and fire, but I still managed to fall victim to food poisoning - and so did the majority of people I met while backpacking Thailand. My recommendation? Pack basic meds like painkillers, anti-diarrhea medicine (you’ll thank me later), and antihistamines. And make sure to have a bottle of electrolytes on hand - you can find them at any 7/11.
8.Scams:
Always ask your Bangkok hostel staff how much they think something should cost, from taxis and tuk-tuks to bus fares, including any item you might want to buy from a market. Also, make sure to always agree on a price before you board any type of vehicle: buses are fine as you can just hand them the fee you know you should pay, and for taxis, you don’t board if the driver doesn’t agree to turn on the meter. We also recommend using Google Maps to ensure that your taxi isn’t taking you on a while riding across the city for the sake of his meter calculator.
9.Temples and Culture:
If you’re exploring religious sites, make sure to look up the appropriate attire (most ask you to cover your chest and legs, and some will also ask to cover your arms). Remove your shoes before you enter the inside of a temple building or even someone’s house.
10.ATMs:
Thai banks charge around ฿200 (around 5.88USD) per transaction for withdrawals with a foreign bank card. You can also expect an additional fee charged by your home bank for a foreign withdrawal. We recommend either exchanging your money at a counter in your home country, withdrawing a large sum of money as soon as you land in Thailand, or trying to deal with a bank teller inside of a bank in Thailand instead of the ATM.
