i stayed there Dec '05 for the week between xmas and new years. it was pretty dingy. the bathroom in our eight-bed dorm was teeny tiny in the middle of the room. weird set up and it was hot -- only one fan in the room. no indoor common area -- just the outdoor courtyard with a picnic table. not very comfy. kitchen was poor -- free bbq was ok. oh, and while i was there a number of rooms had to be fumigated for bedbugs -- one girl was covered head to toe with bites. wouldn't be my first choice to stay.

Cockroaches -- do I need to say more? Do not stay here unless you like filthy showers, lots of noise at night, and very dirty linen. Good luck.

I stayed here and I can honestly say I had the best time ever, in fact it was boss! I met so many great people and the manager Pete and his lovely lady Jo are great people who make you feel very welcome. Although I have to agree the kitchen is a bit on the small side, but the barbecue makes up for it! Pete and Jo help you find work and are very approachable. The hostel is very secure, door is coded of a night so only people staying there can get in and there is a security door which leads to the dorm rooms which is also locked in the day. The rooms have lockers and are safe. Friday night is barbecue night and Pete and Jo lay on loads of free food and then take you down the pub and buy you a bevy! ;-) Free breakfast every morning, open-air courtyard where you can chill and get to know people, DVD nights, communal TV, and it's right in the middle of Kings Cross. In summary, I would recommend this hostel and would stay there again on my next visit to Oz. Guys thanks for making my stay thoroughly enjoyable!

Great style adapted by the hosts of this hostel. It has many traits of the Cornish, I'll have you know. Pasty Sunday is becoming well known on the scene and is a must if you're in the area!!! The female host has a lust for horses that can traced back to the 2001 show jumping championships of her home country. I'd spend twice as much as they charge to stay in this excellent example of backpacker accommodation. Five stars.

I did a study abroad in Australia last year, and toured Sydney before the semester began. While there, I spent 3 nights at this hostel. They are extremely nice, and accommodating. The hostel is safe, although Kings Cross is not the best neighborhood. The Aussie barbecues they have weekly were fantastic! This is the best place to stay in the Kings Cross area. (I was in Sydney for a month and checked out a lot of hostels there.)

This hostel was ok. We had a double en suite, which altogether was very old and bit tatty. However there is a lovely courtyard and it is in a good place and the staff are mostly helpful.
