The Hostelz.com Review
Located right in the heart of Glengarriff Village, Murphy's offers a warm welcome and cheerful place to stay. Finding the hostel is no problem – it's actually impossible to get lost here as everything is on one road.

The rooms are spacious and bright, and the bathrooms are kept very clean. The showers are pretty luxurious – there's a temperature control, there's lots of hot water, and they're not the push-button type, so it's much more like home. The hostel isn't too big (10 rooms, including private rooms), which lends to the cozy feel. It's worth noting that private rooms here are very affordable, costing an extra 2 or 3 Euro per person per night.

The owner and his staff (which include his children) are very friendly, and they also run the café on the main level. Breakfast is not included, but the meals downstairs are very affordable if you're not up to self-catering. There's a small grocery store in town if you're self-catering.

The kitchen is not terribly modern, but is very well equipped and spacious enough to handle a crowd. The sitting room is not overly large, and the tv was not connected at the time of this review. It was, however, a comfortable place to lounge and read on a rainy morning. Generally, those who visit Glengarriff are here for hiking or cycling, and this hostel caters well to that crowd – it's not a place to go looking for a party, but it will provide you with all of the essentials.

Overall, this is a great place to stay. The hostel has a very friendly feel, everything was clean and bright, and the beds are super comfortable (essential after a long day of hill-walking).

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
4  Very clean and comfortable My husband and I stayed at Murphy's a couple of years ago and found it excellent value. We had a comfortable double room. The shower was across the hall as was the WC. That was not a problem for us. The Bean an Ti was an American lady married to a local man, very friendly and helpful.  , Canada ()
3  Nice, but deserted The hostel is in very nice condition, clean, and comfortable. But when we arrived, there was no one on the premises to let us in -- a sign on the door instructed us to ring the bell. if no one answered, we were instructed to find someone across the street to the craft store. if the craft center was closed, we were to call a phone number. The woman we finally managed to track down to let us in seemed to work across the street at the resort hotel. Very strange. And we never saw a soul, other than fellow hostel guests, in the building for our three nights. Again, the facilities were in fine shape, but the lack of visibility of anyone in charge was bewildering.  , Canada ()
4  Clean, great location, lovely staff lovely hostel, nice big kitchen and rooms, fab power showers, right next to bus stop and pubs, restaurants.  ()
5  Glengarriff is a beautiful place and well worth a visit. It's a friendly hostel, centrally located. Warning — some people never leave Glengarriff.  ()
