The Hostelz.com Review
The zebra crossing is an idyll in a hectic city. If you are wanting peace and quiet with friendly guests and staff, then this is the place to come to. Situated under the gaze of Table Mountain and Lion's Head, the hostel has a mixture of dorms, singles, family rooms, and doubles. They are basic but comfortable and spacious. Security is tight and because it is a quieter hostel, you get to meet everyone quickly.

There is a TV lounge, a well looked after kitchen with ample space for all guests, an outdoor seating area, and a small cafe/bar with good food at reasonable prices. They also have internet access. The staff are friendly and run an excellent travel desk with good companies and prices. They are also very knowledgable about where to go and not to go. In this city that is important, even if the dangers are not as high as they used to be.

Nearby there are some excellent restaurants and pubs/diners. Arnolds is a must and Greens serves fantastic food as well. Both are only a couple of minutes walk away. There is also a cinema and shopping centres near by. It's only a short taxi ride from the Waterfront area where there are shopping centres, entertainers and restaurants galore as well as a good aquarium.

If you like people and good company then the Zebra crossing is a must. Party boys and girls give it a miss.

5  Lovely This hostel is lovely. Stayed here two weeks, felt right at home. Staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. It was quiet enough to sleep but also had a friendly vibe and you could enjoy yourselves there. It's a bargain one of the cheapest hostels we found, very clean and couldn't ask for more. There's a room with a TV and books, and a little cafe and bar. Fab atmosphere, really chilled, and met some wonderful people.  , UK ()
5  Good I was at Zebra for more than two months, and I can say that if you really are looking for a place where you can meet nice people and want to taste a bit of the relaxed and cool atmosphere in Cape Town, Zebra is the place to be! Definitely coming back next time!  , Dutch ()
5  Great place! I stayed here from June to August 2007 and thought that it was a great hostel in an excellent location. The staff (Susan and Krizaan) are friendly and helpful and owner Darryl is also very nice. I would recommend the hostel also because it is quiet, has some great views of Table Mountain, and I met many interesting travelers during my time there.  , U.S.A ()
5  Absolute top banana I stayed there christmas week 2007. Susan is an absolute darling -- she took real good care of me and my visiting friends throughout my stay and all the people there made me feel really welcome. there's also Bromywm cafe and she makes a mean fried egg butty on your return from long street night out. i would never stay anywhere else when i return to cape town.  , UK ()
5  Clean, secure, and friendly Thumbs up Zebra Crossing. The place is clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and efficient. Security is excellent, better than most other places I've stayed at in South Africa. Good value for money.  , British ()
5  Awesome Zebra Crossing is a great place to stay. There is nothing wrong with security, it is clean, and the staff are great! There are many other hostels/guesthouses in the same area surrounded by the same streets. Crime happens all over the place. If you are looking for a five-star hotel, go check into one. But don't expect the same reasonable rates. I have already booked my stay for next year at ZC. I recommend it to all!  ()
2  Very poor security This is a nice hostel, but the security at the place is a joke. I stayed there four days and found the front gate open four different times, someone had a cell phone stolen out of a locked private room, and two cars were broken into in their parking lot. It's a real shame too -- the hostel itself is nice, but their lack of attention to security makes this a poor choice for Cape Town.  , Canadian ()
4  We had a great time. The staff were very helpful and the room was clean and warm. The area around the hotel was quite good. Looking forward to staying a week again.  , CANADIAN ()
5  Zebra Crossing was such a great way to start our African Adventure. My partner and I were here in January 2007. The girls were great and nothing was ever a hassle. Thanks for all the help booking tours and trips. Loved it and the little cat!  , Australia ()
5  clean, friendly, and quiet, but in less than three minutes walking distance close to the fantastic night life of Cape Town.  ()
4  I was there in spring 2005. A good place to stay. It's quiet -- which is important for an old fart like myself (age 61). The facilities are more than adequate for those of us with moderate demands on life. Let's face it, everything's a question of the price/quality ratio. I shall stay there again.  ()
5  A quiet place with excellent and helpful staff. It was a pleasure to stay there.  ()
5  I love the place and I would go there again. There is a good vibration, a lovely cat and nice people around.  ()
5  Very friendly staff. The Greek salads and omelets at the bar are first class. Bronywn who runs the bar is friendly and the food is good and not expensive. Room 9 has magnificent views. It's not too busy and has a homely atmosphere. Great place to chill out.  ()
5  I stayed at The Zebra Crossing for two weeks in 2003 and loved the place. I was one of the older tenants and have traveled much in my life and have only found a couple of other hostels in the world I enjoyed as much. If Tanya is still affiliated with The Zebra Crossing, it has to be a five-star hostel. She is knowledgeable, helpful, lots of fun and a real sweetheart!  ()
