Homey and welcoming I was very pleased with the layout, the location, the facilities. I loved the Outside garden area. Clean and quiet and there's a fridge and sink in the room. The staff are okay. In the summer, the backyard is a good place to go. However, the room I stayed in for two weeks was very small (without a desk) and dark. BUT it goes with the territory, as Toad Hall is upper class in terms of a hostel. It is very neat and clean and the en suite bathrooms were a wonder. The kitchen was big enough, as was the common area. The location was handy and you did feel very safe, which is something you can't put a price on (especially when you hear about other hostels). Security seemed to be of great importance here. In addition, the staff were really friendly and helpful from the minute I checked in. It is by far the cleanest hostel I've ever stayed in. Don't expect the front desk to provide anything, even information, unless you are booking something with them. They are very oriented around the $$. I would give them a bit above average rating for cleanliness, though, and I have pretty strict standards for that.
