Hostel Boat the Clipper Reviews on Other Websites
It was just magic to sleep on this boat!!   — Rémi, France (2010-02-19) Hostelsclub
4 Great experience to stay for one night, but you have very little space in the cabin. Not so good shower [a little rusty]   — Anonymous (2009-11-02) Hostelbookers
5 I had lived on a barge as a child and this gave me an opportunity to experience some of the memories once more. Very different to anything else available. Very central.   — Anonymous (2009-10-24) Hostelbookers
2 The location is great and the decorations in the room are quite cute.   — Anonymous (2009-09-28) Hostelbookers
3 Despite all the negative comments we gave "The Clipper" a try and stayed two nights. The boat is located near to the center (you can reach everything by foot), and the owner couple can by very nice, depending on their mood (they had some conflicts). The rooms are very small, smell, are not very clean (no clean linen). There are two toilets and we avoided them as best as we could (dirty), and the shower is kind of funny (but usable once you are in it). For breakfast we got the typical Dutch bread, Chocolate hagel, cheese and ham, tee and coffee - not very much, but I think that's want you get in the Netherlands. I would not recommend staying there more that 2 nights; for these two nights it was ok but if you get a place somewhere else...   — Anonymous (2009-09-15) Hostelbookers
4 Rooms are small if you have more than two people, good location and the fact its a boat makes it something novel. Make sure your able to get down a steep ladder onto the boat. Reception could have been a bit more accomodating and no information about the city was given.   — Anonymous (2009-09-15) Hostelbookers
3 free wifi. but the staff is rude to chinese. discrimination!!! The owner even scold at us for trivial matters such as drinking more hot water at breakfast time.   — Anonymous (2009-09-13) Hostelbookers
5 -it's in centrum of rotterdam -the staff is very friendly -it's lovely place to meet new people from all over the world -a bit too small, but very clean rooms - it's a very crazy but good experiance to sleep at a boat   — Anonymous (2009-09-12) Hostelbookers
4 interesting. fascinating in a strage way   — Anonymous (2009-09-12) Hostelbookers
3 Staying on a boathouse was really cool! It's something you'll want to talk about when describing your travels.   — Mu-Hung Tsai (2009-07-27) Hostelbookers
2 nothin other   — Anonymous (2009-07-15) Hostelbookers
5 Fantastic place for something a little different from the adverage hostel. The owner is great and there is a free breakfast too with really nice coffee. Only a short walk from the Rotterdam Blaak station near the cube houses.Only thing there was no hot water when i went to have a shower. Would stay there again for sure   — Anonymous (2009-07-14) Hostelbookers
4 It was in the centre and the staff was trully hepful.   — Anonymous (2009-07-13) Hostelbookers
2 good location, interesting expirience. but rude staff and very uncomfortable bads and tiny rooms.   — Natalia Granichina (2009-07-12) Hostelbookers
3 Did not have hot water! People were nice tho. Breakfast was below average. The rooms were very, very small!!! Location was probably one of the best u could have in staying Rotterdam.   — Anonymous (2009-07-09) Hostelbookers
2 The staff in this hostel treated guests pretty mean and not friendly at all.   — Anonymous (2009-07-09) Hostelbookers
3 Nice and quiet. The owners were very friendly (they gave us ice cream :) Good location... the bikes survived one night locked up outside on the street. Personally i found the beds very uncomfortable and the room got very hot. Otherwise... it's great value and it did the job for one night   — Anonymous (2009-07-05) Hostelbookers
3 The room was tiny but ok, it's a boat! You cannot ask for more! The bathroom was so dirty that you even forgot you needed to go and the showers too... there isn't hot water so take a breath before your bath! Breakfast is good and the staff is really cool!!! Even the dog is so friendly!!!!!! In general our experience was funny!   — Brenda Berenice Flores Sanchez (2009-07-04) Hostelbookers
4 just such an orginal place to stay in rotterdam....the only drawback is the comings and goings of other guests.....it's very difficult to sleep when people come late and jump down on to the boat and down the steps into the boat.   — robin sylvester bradley (2009-06-30) Hostelbookers
2 Friendly, felt safe because the family lived there   — Anonymous (2009-06-04) Hostelbookers

1  OMG..... It was PRETTY far away from the train station and when you finally get there the first impression is: "What the hell?"... It was nothing like the impression we got of it on the internet. There were many nice looking boats in the canal and this sh*thole Clipper was for sure the worst one. It was tiny and dirty and there was nobody to welcome us. After finally discovering the doorbell an angry man crawled out of the boat to say hi to us. On top of this you could see a gun on the table. The minute we rang the doorbell we could see on the window a hand comigng and taking the gun away. It was the scariest moment ever. The minute we started running with our baggs away from the boat even though the guy came after us to the street yelling that we should come back. So personal congratulations to them who decide to spend a night at this cramped piece of sh*t... Seriously pls... do not go there :)  , Sweden ()
1  This tub is a disgrace and the people running it should get out of the hospitality industry. It is a cramped space in which they chain smoke while trying to entertain their young son and a ridiculous sized dog that occupies usable space in the cabin. The shower is miserable and so were the hosts. They spent the entire evening with family/friends complaining loudly about just about everything to the extent that we left for a nearby bar till the early hours so all that was left to do was sleep in the tiny cabins. Fortunately we were only two in a four-berth cabin. The dock it's moored to isn't romantic at all. It is surrounded by apartment buildings and rubbish. Avoid this so-called nautical experience with a wide berth.  , New Zealand ()
1  The worst hostel I've ever seen, very expensive for the rooms and the space that it has, not very clean, and toilet and shower is like in the boat of the first world war. I don't recommend it at all, is better to book in the little hostels that are not shown on internet. You'll like only if you like dogs (there are three inside the tiny boat), if you're not very tired, and if you don't care about space, conditions. Don't do the same error as I did, Rotterdam is very beautiful and I passed very good times there, the only thing that made my visit not to be wonderful was this hostel.  ()
1  This is the worst hostel I have ever been to in my entire life. The directions to the boat were very poor and it took me over an hour to find it. When I eventually got there, I was greeted by the owners dog which kept barking and growling at me and wouldn't let me on the boat. When the receptionist eventually turned up, he was jaw-droppingly rude and said it my fault the dog was barking at me because "I was afraid of it." The computer for some reason deleted my reservation and although I had booked two nights there, I was only allowed there for one night. The rooms were completely squallid. The sink was blocked, the beds were tiny and cramped, there was water all over the floor, and I saw a little cockroach scuttle across it. The room was also extremely hot, even though it was a mild day outside. Fortunately, I didn't spend long on this boat. The surly receptionist threw me out of the hostel because "I made a nasty comment about the dog" which was still barking and growling at me. I was very angry about this at first but actually he did me a favour. I went to another hostel in Rotterdam and slept in decent, clean accomodation for a lower price. I know the novelty of sleeping in a boat is a strong one, indeed that was the reason I booked it in the first place, but this place is absolutely awful. There's another Hostel Boat in Lubeck in Germany that is very pleasent and much better quality than this place. I've been to many hostels and this is by far the worst, and it's extremely expensive too. It should be avoided at all costs.  ()
5  Wow, perfect price/quality. The location is perfect in the center of Rotterdam, the hosts are very friendly and the breakfast is good. I have never before found a place to sleep for this amount of money in the center of a big city. It has clean and cozy cabins. I have seen worse.  ()
4  This is a very nice place. It has a really cool environment, there are animals around and it's just all around a good time. The rooms were a little small but not bad. It was very clean and not sketchy at all. It has a great breakfast. Go here!  ()
3  Not bad. We had to wait for the owner to turn up when we arrived, and the rooms are a bit small and hot, but this is to be expected on a boat. It's in a nice place and it's very clean. It has friendly people and a good breakfast. I didn't understand how to work the shower, though!  ()
