Small but lively!
This was the first hostel we stayed in, in S. America, and it was perfect for it. I'm used to hostels so expected not so clean bathrooms, and rooms that are basic, but the girl i was with wasnt, but by the end of our time there she was converted by the friendly atmosphere. we only stayed a couple of nights but it was brilliant, check out the salsa club/bar round the corner, it is an experience! The kitchen is large for how many people are actually there. The bar is great, we were in there most nights for constant pool games. Lima itself really didnt impress but the point did! the free breakfast was something of a disappointment but hey ho!

Best hostel in Peru in the coolest city of South America!
This place kicks ass! The Point has amazing staff who will take care of you day and night. The bar is great, the food is good, and the facilities are superb for a party hostel! Lima has great nightlife and it will keep you definitely staying much longer than you planned for. Best thing is that the boys of The Point know the best places to go each night and they get you in for free as well!

Excellent, friendly staff, great breakfast, best bar in town
We stayed there twice. The second time we arrived the manager said "Welcome home" and the girls at the receptions were so friendly that we felt like living in a nice friendly family. Thanks a lot for the surf lessons.

I was there in Dec. 2004. It was my first experience of a backpacker and it was great. I traveled all over Peru after that — Iquitos, Arequipa, Cusco — and stayed in backpackers. The Point offers a great atmosphere and very good staff — it offers a lot more than any other place in terms of space, kitchen, bar and homely atmosphere. Please buy the dogs a tennis ball and give them a kiss. (I am sure the bathrooms will be renovated at The Point sometime soon.)

I visited the Point and though I liked the location and the place itself (TV, patio, outside bar, pool table, kitchen, Internet etc. were nice to have), I did not care for the staff. They seemed to have a little exclusive club composed of themselves and long-term guests of The Point, and their behavior made those of us only staying for a night or two feel unwelcome — like we were intruding upon their house and their private party. I think if you plan on hanging out in Barranco for an extended period of time and really enjoy the company of smug Australians and New Zealanders, that The Point might be just the right place. Otherwise, I would look for somewhere else. But what a cool building . . . and there was hot water . . .

Secure but dirty and unreliable staff. Do not let them book bus trips for you as they generally fall through. Also they add a large premium. The bar is good and people generally are nice.

Yes! This is definitely the best hostel in Peru. I love the place.

The Point was quite okay, friendly and laid back. It's not as expensive as some hostels in Miraflores, but it's definitely not cheap. Barranco is one of most beautiful neighborhoods in Lima and it's safe. I wouldn't define hostel as unclean — it might be that people who consider the hostel unclean haven't been traveling in South America a lot. :) You can't really expect "five stars" in terms of cleanliness and people if you are staying in a backpackers place.. There is a Hilton as well in Lima!

This hostel's best attribute is its friendly staff and great location. Cool people seem to find each other especially here. A big shout to my man Scott, the bartender.

The Point is certainly not the cleanest hostel in the world, but it IS secure and located in a safe area. As for the people...you get all sorts in hostels!

I haven't been on the road for six months. Looking back after a year in South America there are about 2 or maybe 3 places that stand out in my memory (hazy as it is at times). The Point is top on that list. I miss its staff, its cozy rooms, its neighborhood and indeed its bar. If you stay there it won't be regretted, unless you challenge the owner to a cribbage match and you enjoy winning!

I thought the place was super cool. The people who worked there were knowledgeable and helpful and will make your stay in Peru as easy as possible. For $7 a night I was more than pleased. They had a TV, free computer, free pool table — what else do you want? I recommend the Point.

Great place. The dogs are amazing, the bar is cool, and we had lots of fun going out in Barranco.
