Sanur is a small town on Bali island, between Java and Lombok, in Indonesia. This town is transforming in a place for resorts and the only chaotic area here is the harbor. Although it has a long beach (about five kilometers long), the sand looks a little bit dirty, probably because of the harbor and all the boats that arrive here, and you can only swim in high tide. Sanur is one of the best centers for diving in Bali, as it is possible to organize everything you need in terms of equipment and information about the dive sites. Along the beach you can find some hostels, budget accommodation, and the best restaurants.
If you are looking for more traditional and cheap places to eat, you need to go in the opposite direction -- inland. The main reason to stop in Sanur is to go to Nusa Lembongan –- a backpackers' destination -– full with budget accommodation, nice beaches, and some hills with good views of the island itself, but special scenery with Mount Agung on Bali island as background. There are five to six boats per day going to Nusa Lembongan –- prices are very different for the fast or slow boat, with the last one costing less than the first one.
The best way to arrive in Sanur is by shuttle bus (you can get it coming from almost every city in Bali). It is also very near the airport in Denpasar. There are irregular public buses and minivans (called bemos) but you will need local information to get them, although they are quite inexpensive.
The hostels in Sanur are not that many, so in high season you really need to book in advance. Sanur's hostels are basic, but with all the facilities you need.
