Cafe Locca Homestay Reviews

All things considered, Cafe Locca Homestay is excellent value for the price!

The Location

A recent winner of the Best Hostel of Bali award, Caf Locca Homestay is located in the heart of southern Sanur. It is only a five-minute walk to the beach, with a wide choice of bars and restaurants as well as cheaper local eateries right on its doorstep. It is in walkable distance from the Sarbagita bus, which is the only reliable public transportation of Bali and which gives travelers the option of discovering Kuta, Nusa Dua, or Uluwatu easily and cheaply from here. However, it is on the far end from Denpasar and the harbor to Lembongan and to reach these places, one would definitely need some kind of private transportation.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Caf Locca offers two dorms, which are quite different. While one is in a wonderful authentic Balinese mini villa, the other is on the upper floor of the boring concrete building where the reception is located -- and you will not know which one you are placed into until you arrive! Even though the rooms themselves look pretty much the same from the inside, one building has the swimming pool right outside; from the other, it's a two-minute walk to the pool. Besides, while the one in the villa has a wonderful and spacious bathroom with huge mirrors and a sparkling new bath tube, the dorm in the main building is tiny and plain and only has a shower to offer. However, even despite these differences, all rooms and bathrooms are impeccably clean; air conditioned; and there are free towels, shower gel, and shampoo available for guests to use.

Common Spaces

Without doubt, the best part of the hostel is the huge and clean swimming pool with comfy sunbeds all around. A beautiful outdoor kitchen and eating area are right next to it as well, where guests can serve themselves to tea and coffee all day long, play the guitar, or watch any of the available DVDs on the garden TV. However, the rules about who is eligible for breakfast -- which is served here as well -- have recently changed and are not entirely clear.

Summary

As it's conveniently located, clean, and comfortable with a lot of added extras like the swimming pool, free hot drinks, and shampoo, it can be an ideal place to spend some relaxing days as well as a good base from which to discover Southern Bali.

Cafe Locca Homestay is an awesome place to stay and relax. It is quiet and offers a bit of luxury for the backpacker on a budget.

The Location

Just around the corner off the main stretch of shops along the beach is the Cafe Locca Homestay. It is just down the road from a really cheap local twenty-four-hour restaurant as well as more upmarket restaurants if that takes your fancy. There are quite a few different convenience stores and a pharmacy down the road, and of course you are only a five- to ten-minute walk down to the beach but if you are here for surfing it pays to get a motorbike and drive around to different beaches in the larger Sanur area to catch the good waves.

Rooms and Bathrooms

They have two dorm rooms as well as private rooms here. The first dorm room is located in the upstairs level of the front reception and has eight beds. The other is located out the back near the pool with the other private rooms and is also an eight-bedroom. There is one bathroom per dorm for use and they are equipped with clean facilities. Sometimes if you are lucky, the water is lukewarm so you don't wind up taking freezing-cold showers.

Common Spaces

The biggest common space for the hostel is located out the back around the pool. The pool is clean, and while it is small, it is large enough to laze about in in the afternoon. There are a heap of deck chairs that you can lie in and enjoy the afternoon. Off to the back of the area is a small kitchenette that you can cook meals and store food in if you choose to. They also have tables and dining chairs here so that you can sit and eat or hang about with people and have a few drinks. They have a television in this area too, so you can chill out and watch some of the movies that they have in their collection or some local Indonesian television.

Summary

This is an amazing hostel! The staff here are really helpful and friendly and will be able to give you information on where to go and what to do around the area as well as how to navigate the local buses.

Cafe Locca Homestay Reviews from the Web

Really enjoyed my stay here! Atmosphere was really chill out. Was lovely to sit in the outdoor kitchen and watch the rain. Pool was a really nice touch. The hostel is within walking distance to town centre, but is slightly set back from the road so its really peaceful at night. Staff are lovely and really welcoming. Would stay here again!

Lovely setting. Slightly chaotic and lots of work going on as new people had only been there a week. Everyone was very friendly though, lovely bungalow in gardens with a great pool. I'm sure in a couple of weeks when they are sorted it will be great.

Liked: I loved everything about the property: the pool, the cute decorations, the location near cheap/nice restaurants, shops and massage. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were air conditioned...I liked it so much, I cancelled my travels to Ubud and spent the week here. (There was even a cute resident puppy!) Didn't like: The only thing that could be better is to change the light bulb in the pagoda, so that the cold blue light is replaced with a warm, orange one.

Liked: The pool is just great. There is a lot to do, e.g. a lot of bars/pubs where they have live music. From Sanur youcan easily drive by motorbike to Kuta, Ubud, Denpasar or even Ulu Watu. Took me 2 hours to Ubud. Didn't like: The beach was not good for swimming, a lot of fisher boats. But it was low tide...

Liked: Good location in Sanur, close to some shops and restaurants. Didn't like: Tiny room and bathroom, with no lock on the door (but had lockers). Only area to hang out is outside.

Awesome stay! Perfect location on a side but just couple minutes away from the main traffic, Phillip, Moffie and rest of the staff were extremely friendly and we felt like home. Place was full of other travellers, so no one could feel alone in the common area or by the pool (unless they wanted to:). Clean, Comfy, with coffe and tea always available:). Great value for money.P.S I do recommend Baby Monkeys Warung for lunch (not breakfast tho). Just across the street, cheap and much tastier than one on the corner, for unknown reason packed with tourists. And big Rudolf is a great guy to talk to:)

Liked: Lovely little hostel in sanur, from the airport I walked outside and hailed a blue bird taxi on the street, cost 85000 to get here. Much cheaper than the pre paid 125000. Dorm room is spacious, comfy bed and aircon is at a nice temp. Pool area and garden is a nice place to chill. Close to lots of shops, bars and restaurant Didn't like: WiFi didn't reach the dorm, not a big issue though

Liked: Pool was hotel standard. Bathroom of dorm beautiful just like having your own hotel room. Didn't like: However they stated it was a bed and breakfast but on arrival I was told dorm stayers do not receive breakfast which was disappointing.

Liked: Amazing place, kept spotless and with the exception of the "overflow" room each has a phenomenal bathroom with great water temperature and pressure. People there are incredibly helpful and friendly. A definite will stay again. Didn't like: A little far from the downtown hub, but totally not a problem if you use a scooter, bike or like a little exercise. Also the included breakfast must be requested each time the day before in order to receive it. It's toasts or eggs whichever you prefer.

Location and Contact

Location

Just when you reach Sanur on first traffic light, take a right then straight ahead until dead end. Turn left; after 500m on a right (next intersection with Jalan Poso) you can hop off taxi and walk on right around 300m. We are on right-hand of the road. Look for neon-box named Cafe Locca and carry on down the narrow lane.
