Get to know Entebbe (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Entebbe.

Entebbe is a town in Uganda, which is on the continent of Africa. Many people visiting Entebbe only pass through its airport before heading out into the rest of the country. However, the town has a lot more to offer than just the international airport. It has a very deep and unique history, along with parks, islands, zoos, and many other sights and sounds.

Staying at a hostel in Entebbe is enjoyable due to the calm climate. The town nestles on Lake Victoria, so the air is far cooler than in the rest of Uganda. From the town center, you can book helicopter and boat rides to the many islands in the lake or to the sites around Entebbe.

If you ask someone at your hostel, they will be more than happy to tell you about how they once filmed one of the original Tarzan movies at the Entebbe Botanical Gardens. These gardens are a great place to relax and spend the day getting in touch with nature. There are rare flowers and trees, as well as mischievous monkeys. Try visiting on a weekday to avoid the tourists.

Entebbe may be a city in a landlocked country, but it still has beaches along the shores of the lake. Take a walk down to the beach at sunset. Have a nice, relaxing dinner out at one of the restaurants lining the lakefront. When the day is done, you can head back to your hostel for a nightcap and to prepare for the next day exploring the town.

Undoubtedly, one of the best places to visit in Entebbe is the zoo, which the locals call the Wildlife Education Center, as well as the Ngamba Chimpanzee Island. This latter island is a good place to go on safari because you can interact with the chimpanzees on the island. You can get to the island by boat or by helicopter depending on your budget.
