Convenient, friendly hostel
I was pleasantly surprised by the "extras" we got here. there was room cleaning each day, fresh towels and a free printing service. The meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) from the bar are well priced and very generous, me and my boyfriend ended up just sharing meals they were so big. Spritzers and drinks in general were also very good. The only downsides were that the air-con in the room dripped and could have been a little cooler, and the shower temperature had a mind of its own. I'd say this was actually a little dangerous and should probably be looked into as there's potential for someone to scald themselves as the temperature could jump from cold to extremely hot for no obvious reason. All in all a great stay. I'd stay here again only I do prefer to be closer to the river as the atmosphere and piazzas are nicer there.
I stayed at the yellow in March, overall I really enjoyed my stay. It was clean and felt secure and the staff were friendly. It's close to termini and had a bar and bistro downstairs. The breakfasts were good value.
Big hostel with nice social atmosphere but poor facility
This is really a big hostel, with two separate buildings and a cozy pub. I have stayed there for 4 days in two buildings. One building is next to the pub, with common room and kitchen. The kitchen is so poor that they don't even have stove, you can only use microwave, and the air conditioner in common room or kitchen doesn't work at all. Another building is in the opposite of street, with reception. The staff there is not helpful and impatient, they mistake the room number of mine and blame this for me, ask me to return the key of the room I've never entered in. The worst thing is the bathroom, both the en suite one and the shared one. The en suite one is so small that you can't even make a turn inside (4 mixed room), it is not what it shows in the picture at all.
Great Location and a bar downstairs
Good location, really close to the train station, good breakfast menu, cheap dinner and wifi available in the bar downstairs. Spacious lockers under the beds but no Air conditioning in some dorms.
Hot and dirty.
First of all, I have to mention that the pictures they display on their own website are so not true. They do not have fancy bedrooms as they say. The bedroom that I stayed, a seven-bed mixed room, was poor, the walls were cracking, most of the lockers were broke, and there was no air conditioning. We asked for a upgrade but they couldnt give us, and its physically impossible to sleep in Rome during summer in a room without air conditioning and six other people. The showers were just disgusting, there were three for the whole floor, I had to take a shower with my havaianas on, but honestly on some days I preferred not to take a shower, until we asked for our money back and went to a two-star hostel.
Staff nice but if you plan to sleep go somewhere else.
We didnt get a single hour of sleep in that place in three days -- rooms were noisy and cold, heaters caused blackouts, and in the last night, one of the heaters ignited a pillow so that the whole place was filled with smoke. No fire alarm went off! The rooms are rather overpriced, we paid around 30 quid for a night in a twelve-bed dorm. Another big disadvantage is the absence of a kitchen and their preventing you from bringing food or drinks to the dorms. We would not recommend the hostel to our friends.
as far as a really large hostel goes this place was great. the staff were really helpful, and one employee even allowed my friends to use their cell phone to text me that they had arrived since i got to rome earlier than them and was in a different hostel at the time. it's also located close to termini but not right on top of the station so the rooms are fairly quiet. they were really informative about which bus routes to take and other small things. the rooms themselves are pretty big with lots of storage space under the beds. the bathrooms were decent, and there was never a wait to shower however if more than 2 people showered at the same time no hot water would come out (this is typical in most of italy though). there's a bar below that is a little overpriced but convenient. the only downsides were the early morning cleaning services with the not so friendly cleaning staff who i'm pretty sure took great pleasure in waking us up, the internet is incredibly slow and there's only two computers (one of which has a messed up keyboard, however there are TONS of internet cafes that you can use for about 50 euro cents for an hour), and finally because it's such a large hostel it isn't terribly sociable, but we had an awesome time anyways with the two guys in our room so it all worked out.
Amazing. You have to stay here. And do the pub crawl! I was traveling alone and met so many fun and interesting people. Everyone who worked there was friendly and accommodating and hysterical! I highly recommend staying here. No complaints.
