This is a reat palce to stay with a very friendly and welcoming vibe!
We booked the hostel through a place in Santiago and stayed there at the end of June '09. The staff were excellent and very helpful. The hostel is spotlessly clean and retains all of its old world charm coupled with a funky decor. Facilities are second to none and you feel that you are staying in a five-star hotel. I particularly liked the roof terrace and library on the top floor, where you can chill out with a good book compliments of the Hostel. Getting around the city is easy and convenient from here. The wine bar directly underneath the Hostel serves great food and very competitively priced. There are several good restaurants nearby.

First time I've felt compelled to write a review. Wonderful restored mansion, big kitchen, separate TV room and quiet area, comfortable beds, good breakfast, friendly staff -- all good basically. It's not the cheapest place in town by any means but well worth it. The best hostel I've stayed in in six months of travel.

We stayed at Happy House for five nights in May 2005. We had wonderful accommodations and found the staff to be most hospitable. It was my first international trip visiting my daughter, Lisa, and while she spoke Spanish, mine is quite limited. The staff was multilingual and helped me with my requests. I feel that I will always have a home in Chile and definitely plan to return to Happy House again!!

Outstanding. About double the price of many hostels in Santiago, but given the living costs of this country...that's about $10 per night - and more than worth it. Huge spaces....brand new interior and impeccably, anally clean. Funky, stylish interior with moody lighting. Very relaxing. Best breakfast I've had in Santiago also. Metro about 100 metres away.

This is an excellent hostel, the best in the world. It is clean, has friendly staff, and it's well located. It's paradise for backpackers, like an island in the middle of the desert.

Beautiful bulding with beautiful staff. Nice place to hang around for a few days. Nice place for a backpackers who like to have the feeling of being in a luxury hotel.

This is a fantastic hostel and you should feel very confident in making a reservation here if you're traveling to Santiago. First, the location is fantastic, one block from the Metro in a quiet little neighborhood (Barrio Brazil). Very safe; female or solo travelers can feel confident coming back at any hour of the night. Second, the facilities are outstanding. Clean, hot showers, and beautiful woodwork inside. There's a nice deck on the roof to hang out on in the summer months. Third, and most important, the staff are superb. Very friendly, excellent English and German spoken, and if you want to practice your Spanish, they'll even indulge you in that. Truly an outstanding experience at the Happy House Hostel, even if the name is a bit cheesy. I highly recommend it.
