Goldsmiths House is a female-only hostel, organised similarly to student-styled accommodation catering for both short breaks and longer term residents. Single or twin rooms are available, with either ensuite or shared washroom facilities.
The Location
The hostel is situated on a quiet, residential street about five minutes' walk from Mornington Crescent tube station on the Northern line, or about twenty minutes' walk north west of Euston Station. The nearest convenience shops are situated around the Mornington Crescent tube station. The area itself is quiet and not very interesting, but Camden (home to the vibrant and well-known Camden Market) and Regents Park (one of Londons most well-maintained public parks) are less than fifteen minutes' walk away. As with any central London hostel, getting around is easy and not an issue with the tube and bus facilities available
Rooms and Bathrooms
There isnt much to be said about the rooms, other than that they are basic, clean, and functional but of a good size with very good storage spaces (including many drawers, wardrobes, and underbed lockers). Unusual for a London hostel, showers are very strong and the water is adequately hot!
Common Spaces
All common areas are very well maintained and clean. There are two cosy TV lounges available (one of which contains a working piano), and a common computer area to access the internet. If you like cooking, this is the hostel for you as there is plenty of kitchen space with stoves, ovens, microwaves, fridge, freezers, and many utensils. The size of the kitchen will allow you to hold a cooking competition for fifteen contestants! You are issued a lockable kitchen locker space and a postbox when you check in. The open eating area overlooks a lovely and serene garden with roses and a manicured lawn. Wi-Fi is available at a cost and laundry facilities are available.
Summary
Full payment (by bank transfer or over the phone) is expected before arrival. Please note that this hostel does not accept card or cash payments in person. Guests are also expected to bring their own towel (other bedding and bedsheets are provided).
This is a decent, well-equipped hostel in a quiet, central, residential location suitable for short- or long-stay guests who value peace and privacy. The hostel seems sociable, with BBQ events and film nights planned for the coming week, but was very quiet at the time of visit. The rooms and hostel in general lack character, as decoration is very basic and almost clinical. This is a pragmatic and safe hostel to access the effervescence of London.
Quiet and Clean!
The quietest place I have ever stayed at. Price very reasonable. Bad that they charge you before you arrive and you cannot have a chance to cancel or change it. Otherwise perfect hostel. Huge rooms.
