Koh Phi Phi, Thailand, is an island group on the west coast of Thailand. The small archipelago consists of six islands, all of which belong to the Krabi Province. The largest and the most populated island of the group is Ko Phi Phi Don. Ko Phi Phi Leh is a bit smaller and became really famous when the movie “The Beach” was partly produced on the island (check out Ao Maya, the filming location -- this lovely spot on the western shoreline is flanked by green-clad cliffs). On Ko Mai Phai there is some snorkeling available, but compared to the other two larger islands, the opportunities are limited. Ko Yung, Bida Nok, and Bida Nai are the remaining three islands of the archipelago. However, they are way less popular with tourists. Ko Phi Phi is considered to have one of the most beautiful beaches worldwide -- sandy white shores, crystal-clear waters, and pleasant temperatures all year round attract tourists from all over the world. It is also well known as party place for backpackers. In particular, in Tonsai on Ko Phi Phi Don, you will find plenty of options to go out at night and to party on the beach.
There are two seasons on the island -- the rainy season and the dry season. The rainy season starts in May and ends in December. The dry season begins in January and lasts until April. The climate is tropical with average maximum temperatures ranging from twenty-eight to thirty-two degrees Celsius all year round.
Ko Phi Phi Don and Ko Phi Phi Leh are very popular tourist destinations and therefore it has a broad range of accommodations. You can book fancy resorts as well as cheap hostels in Koh Phi Phi, Thailand. The islands are very popular with backpackers and consequently you can find numerous Koh Phi Phi, Thailand hostels on the island. The quality of the Koh Phi Phi, Thailand hostels is mostly good, including clean and functional facilities.
The authentic nature of the islands is widely protected by their status as a national park. It is an excellent spot for water sports -- scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking and swimming are very popular with tourists and a main reason for many travelers to visit the islands. If you want to explore the natural beauty of the island, check out the Phi Phi viewpoint. It is one of the highest elevations on the island of Phi Phi Don. The hike up to the top is quite easy and rewards you with a magnificent view on the bays, Tonsai Village, and Phi Phi Leh. It is a perfect spot for pictures, as well.
