David City is a modern city located in the Pacific West of Panama, and is conveniently situated on the Pan-American Highway (a long stretch of highway that stretches the entire length of the Americas).
David City has a number of casinos, and a lively nightlife, with several festivals that occur throughout the year. The drink of choice in David City -- and much of Central America -- is rum (in Spanish, it's "ron"). Panama’s local rum, called Carta Vieja, can be purchased locally at all bars and supermarkets within Panama. David City is also a good base to explore some of the surrounding region, and to partake in some of the regions adventure spots, such as water rafting, canyoning, and rock climbing. Los Pozos de Caldera hot springs is a popular natural spot located a few kilometers from the city.
There are many hotels and hostels in David City, all at reasonable prices and offer basic to luxury services and facilities. Hostels in David City are generally good value for money, and include a complimentary breakfast, hostel bar with happy hour or drink specials, free Wi-Fi or internet access, and spacious common areas, with a good, social vibe. Some David City hostels even have gym facilities and a swimming pool. Most David City hostel staff speak both Spanish and English, and can provide information about local events and activities, including information about transportation to nearby towns, as well as to Costa Rica, Bocas del Toros, and Panama City.
