This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Zaostrog.
Zaostrog is a small, coastal town situated on the Adriatic coast in Croatia. The main strip of the town is located right on the coast, and has an amazing view of the nearby islands. The beaches are pebble beaches (as in most of Croatia), however the water is beautifully clear. There are also many walking trails around the town.
The ferry port is located only five kilomters north of the town, where ferries can be taken to the nearby islands, including the popular Hvar Island. There are a few facilities and amenities located in the town, including a few cafes, restaurants, a post office, and a couple of small supermarkets. If you are traveling in the low season (October through May), many places are either closed for the season, or only have reduced operating hours.
There are many accommodation options available, including Zaostrog hostels, hotels, guesthouses, and campgrounds (for both tents and motor homes). If you are traveling in the high season (July through September), it is definitely worth booking in advance, as the town -- and entire coastal region -- is a popular tourist destination. Most accommodation will have parking facilities available, as well as free Wi-Fi, or Wi-Fi hotspots (mostly in campgrounds). Hostels in Zaostrog are clean, with free Wi-Fi, communal kitchen and social areas, and they provide linen and towels. They also usually have the option of either dorm or private rooms. Most local staff that work within tourism can speak English and some can also speak German, however any Croatian phrase is appreciated -- "Hvarla" means "Thanks," and is easy to remember due to the island Hvar.
