He loved to promote sporting and gambling events and is credited with being the originator of The Americas Cup Yacht Race. He is also known for his Gordon Bennett Cup Race which was the forerunner of Grand Prix racing. Still in existence today, the Gordon Bennett Irish Classic Run is held in June. Tourists can follow the same route and enjoy an incredible journey across some of the most beautiful roads in Ireland with sights and attractions that all will enjoy.
