ArkaBarka Floating Hostel is a unique place to stay in Belgrade; it is a floating hostel built on a barge on Danube. The hostel is very nicely decorated, and is more like a quirky designer hostel.
Location of ArkaBarka Hostel is not exactly central; it is across the river from the Old Belgrade, but still an easy twenty-minute walk away from the most of the interesting parts of the city. And the walk itself is a very pleasant stroll along the river through a park. The location also happens to be not so far from Zemun, a small historical town next to Belgrade proper. The hostel provides bicycles free of charge for those who want to use them to get to Zemun or just ride along the river. There is a limited number of bicycles, though, and there are not enough for every guest who might want to borrow them. So if you do want to borrow them, you better go to the reception early and ask.
Rooms and Bathrooms
With all the good things about this hostel, the size of the rooms and bathrooms is not one of them. Especially the bathroom is quite cramped, as can be expected if you consider you would be living in a barge on the river. But the rooms are very colorful and have lots of light through huge windows. It can get cold in the winter, though.
One of the best things about ArkaBarka hostel, other than the unique and quite cool experience of sleeping in a floating hostel, is the common areas. The reception doubles as a cafe/bar, and the whole area is also like a cafe to hang out. And outdoors there is beautiful sundeck where you can enjoy the sun with a drink and meet other travelers in the hostel. There is no kitchen in the hostel, but the excellent buffet-style breakfast in the mornings is included in the price.
All in all, ArkaBarka Floating Hostel is a must-see place in Belgrade. After all, there aren't so many cities in the world where you can spend the night in a designer accommodation floating over the Danube, are there? And when you add the great breakfast, free bicycles, the amazing view from the riverside rooms, and the perfect-to-chill sundeck, ArkaBarka Floating Hostel really proves to be a winner. But don't take our word for it, please go and see for yourself!
