Bigfoot Hostel Leon is by far the most famous hostel in León, Nicaragua. As it's located right next to the city center, everybody in the city knows it -- you can just ask a local where the hostel is and they will point you in the right direction. The hostel used to be much bigger, but after the political crises that hit Nicaragua, it closed down and just reopened a few months ago, smaller than it used to be.
The Location
It is conveniently located less than five minutes' walking away from the main square. The bus station is around fifteen-minute taxi drive away. The street of the hostel is safe at night as well, because there are many other bars and hostels around so there are always people walking by. The nightlife area is at a mere ten minutes' walking away and the neighborhood seems to be safe at nighttime as well.
Rooms and Bathrooms
It has the option of dorms and private rooms. Dorms are usually big and on two floors, with bunk beds on the main floor and just single beds (usually three) at the first floor. Lockers are available but you need to bring your own padlock; they are quite big so it is even possible to fit the entire backpack inside. Cheaper dorms don’t have air conditioning (only fans), and it is possible to pay more for higher-quality dorms with air conditioning.
Bathrooms are located at the back of the hostel and there are many available, with toilets and showers separated so there is always availability. Soap is available but not shampoo in the showers. Both dorms and bathrooms are clean and cleaning ladies seem to work all day long to keep the area clean.
Common Spaces
The hostel has a bar right at the entrance, which works as reception as well. Plus there is a tiny swimming pool with chairs, tables, and hammocks around. It is definitely a party hostel and very easy to socialize and meet people. The bar stays open until late night and it plays loud music, so it is not a great choice for those who want to have a quiet sleep. It also seems to attract many locals in the evenings as different events are organized such as beer pong tournaments ... and prices for drinks are affordable. Unfortunately, no kitchen is available for now (they are building one), so it can be a bit more expensive to get food.
Summary
In conclusion, this place is perfect for young travelers and party people but not recommended to couples and customers that want a private and quiet time, as the music is loud and the staff always try to bring people to the bar to join the events.

• There are normally about 3 to 4 buses they call expresso buses that shuttle direct between the two cities.
