HI - Salta - Backpacker's City Hostel is a friendly and welcoming place, and a good central base from which to explore Salta. It's affiliated with a couple of other hostels in the city and you can use the facilities at these hostels as well (one of them has a pool). Free dinner is offered every night at one of the associated hostels, and guests at Backpackers City are welcome to go. The hostel organizes excursions every day, and staff will help you arrange whatever other activities you may be after. They'll also book HI hostels elsewhere in Argentina for you when you`re moving on, or call you a cab to take you to the airport or bus station for that early-morning trip. The Location The hostel is very easy to find and is a short walk from the bus station. It’s just a couple of blocks from the main square and the market, and not far from travel agencies, bars, restaurants, or whatever else you might need during your stay in Salta. The train station is further away and requires a cab ride, but you’ll probably be heading there very early anyway if you plan to take the Tren de las Nubes. Rooms and Bathrooms Dorm rooms are a little small, but beds are comfortable and adequate blankets are supplied to keep you warm even when the temperature drops in the off-season (rooms get chilly at night). Lockers are provided in each room and there are enough to go around if the room is full; they`re large enough to store a backpack. Private rooms are also available if you prefer. Rooms all have door locks and keys are left at reception when you go out. Bathrooms are individual (one toilet, one sink, one shower) and there are about eight throughout the hostel. They're clean but cramped, and showers aren't separated from the rest of the bathroom (just a nozzle on the wall), so it can be a bit tricky to keep your clothes dry while you shower. Water is hot and pressure is good. Common Spaces There is an internet room with free access, and Wi-Fi is also available (it doesn't work in dorm rooms, however). There`s a separate, comfy TV lounge, and another large area with tables and chairs for dining or setting up your laptop (note, however, that power outlets are in short supply so make sure your computer is fully charged if you`re intending to use it for a while). Free breakfast is provided in the morning, beginning at 6 a.m., and is the usual pastries, juice, and coffee found all over Argentina. It's easy to socialize here, but you can find a quiet corner if you need that, too. It`s very central, so it`s within easy reach of Salta's nightlife. Summary Overall, it's a good base for exploring Salta and the surrounding regions, and a pleasant place to hang out for a few days.
