Hostel Red Apple is located in Omsk, a Siberian city that is a famous stop on the Trans-Siberian Railway. It is a small town where tourists usually stop one or two days before heading to Novosibirsk and Baikal Lake.
The hostel is located in a big parking lot on the main neighborhood of the city, where most restaurants, bars, and tourist attractions are. The railway station is a fifteen-minute bus ride, which is very convenient for those coming with the train (and this includes most tourists) and the bus stop is just a couple of minutes away from the hostel. The two main nightclubs of Omsk are very near the hostel; shops and a supermarket are close by.
Rooms and Bathrooms
It offers privates and dorms. The hostel is generally very well maintained, kept cleaned, and with new equipments. The rooms especially have very nice beds and comfy mattresses, and bedsheets are clean and of a good material. The walls are quite thick, so you can be a bit insulated from the other rooms and have a nice sleep. There is one bathroom to be shared with anyone in the hostel, with several separate showers and toilets. The hostel is small, so the number of toilets and showers is more than enough to not let customers wait. In addition, bathrooms are also kept perfectly clean all the time. Hot water is available and soap as well. There are lockers in the rooms that you can use with your own padlock.
The only common space is the shared kitchen and lobby area, right at the entrance. Shoes have to be left at the entrance and slippers are provided. There is a TV and some comfortable sofas with tables. There is a filter to drink the water and a fridge where you can keep food. Breakfast is provided free of charge; it only includes one egg and a small sandwich, but it is nice to have it in the morning.
The staff are nice and helpful, even though English is not spoken. Other customers seem to be mostly Russians and it is not very easy to meet other people, but at breakfast time it is still possible to have some conversation.
All in all, it is a great choice for a nice sleep and a place to relax. It's not great to meet people, but Russian hostels are not good for that in general. The location is very convenient to explore the surroundings and reach the railway station.
