Godzillas Rooms Reviews

HI - Moscow - Godzillas Hostel is a big hostel with several floors and kitchens. It is located in a quiet street in the center of Moscow, within walking distance of Hermitage Garden and only fifteen minutes' walk from Tverskaya Street.

The Location

HI - Moscow - Godzillas Hostel is easy to find, as it has a bright sign on Bolshoy Karetny Street. This is a quiet area of Moscow center. You can easily walk to Tverskaya Street, Red Square, and the very city center from this place -- it will take you up to fifty minutes. The walk from any of the metro stations (either Trubnaya or Tverskaya) will take about twenty minutes. You can go for a coffee or a nice walk in Hermitage Garden, which is very close to this hostel. As for food stores, there is only one option available -- Perekrestok-Express, which is about three hundred metres away from the hostel.

On the same street as the hostel, there is a huge Georgian restaurant, but its guests keep calm. It is safe to walk to the hostel even at night time -- this area is well secured, as Moscow government buildings are located very closely to the hostel.

Rooms and Bathrooms

In a four-bed dorm, there are several pieces of furniture (besides bunk beds) -- a wooden wardrobe, a small table, two small chests of drawers, an armchair, two mirrors (a small one and a big one), and lockers. On the wall, there is a huge painting in modern style. Electrical outlets are quite a few, but it would be better to have some more for the dorm room. There are ventilators in the hostel rooms to save you from Moscow heat in summertime.

During our stay in this hostel, the sole night lamp was dusty, and windowsills were also dusty. However, we could hear and notice a cleaning lady working in the hostel corridor.

Our four-bed, female dorm room was on the second floor, and the windows of our room overlook Bolshoy Karetny Street. In general, it is very quiet, with no noise from the street during our stay, and we couldn't hear anyone in other rooms. We even managed to work on a laptop sitting on the big windowsill in the room.

It's also quiet in a single room booked by our friend; this one was located on the fourth floor, which is the top floor of the hostel building. It is quite small, and its window overlooks Moscow roofs; the view is very peaceful, and we could hear the bell ringing in the local church.

Bathrooms and toilets are located on every floor and are equipped with corner showers and sinks. The bathrooms are quite clean, except for the hair on the walls in the corner shower.

Common Spaces

To get to the reception desk and to your room in the hostel, you will have to climb ladders (and this is not something that you'll particularly appreciate when you have some luggage). If you want to check out and then store your bag in the hostel, you can use a cage room on the first floor. During our stay, a cleaning lady once started vacuum cleaning in the hostel corridor at 9:30 a.m., which is a bit loud for the early hour.

There are kitchens on two of the three floors; each has some cooking spot, a huge common table, a fridge, spoons, knives, forks, and a lot of plates (and cups are better to be grabbed on the second floor in the coffee room, as there can be a shortage of them in the kitchen). On the second floor you'll find the reception desk, a small coffee room with a nasty coffee machine, and a common room. The common room is very big and cozy; there are several old leather sofas and soft armchairs, solid wooden tables, and a TV set. In the common room, you can also sit on the cushions on the windowsills. On the second floor, you can also find a room with an iron and a washing machine (it costs some money to do washing in this hostel). The Wi-Fi connection is stable. A hair dryer can be borrowed from the receptionist.

Summary

The hostel staff are relaxed, and the atmosphere in this hostel is very peaceful, with no loud drinking or parties. It is cool that there is a huge common room and a real coffee machine where you can make yourself a cup of coffee for zero cost. The place seems safe and is a nice option for a stay. As the hostel is located not right near the metro stations, you can be more motivated to enjoy a walk down to the old Moscow.
