HOFT Hostel Bangkok is clean, quiet, and conveniently located in Silom.
The Location
HOFT is centrally located in the Silom/Sathorn area, within walking distance from major tourist attractions like Patpong Night Market and Lumphini Park. Chong Nonsi BTS, as well as the Sala Daeng and Silom MRT stations, is easily walkable from the hostel as well. As this is a busier part of the city with many condominium residences and commercial towers, the area boasts a wide variety of dining in all budgets, from street vendors to all-you-can-eat shabu restaurants and five-star hotel buffets. Just around the corner from the hostel is the popular seafood restaurant Boon, famous for their curry crab.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are simple but incredibly comfortable; they are modestly but elegantly furnished in the contemporary design style that is sweeping the city's mid-market hostel scene, with rustic elements such as wooden sink basins and woven rattan nightstands adding a soft touch to minimalist concrete walls and floors. Strong metal bunks are fitted with soft, thick mattresses and fleece or down blankets. Dormitories range from four to eight beds per room, with female-only dorms as well as mixed. Four and six bunk "family" rooms can be booked for groups traveling together. Couples who prefer a private room will find a lovely double/queen bed with ultra-soft pillows and blankets, a chair and small laundry rack, and floor cushions for sitting. There are no en suite rooms.
The shared bathrooms are well lit, stylishly decorated in HOFT's signature modern minimalist style, and exceptionally clean. Male and female bathrooms are located on separate floors. The toilets are separate from the showers and both are cleaned daily. There are body-wash and shampoo dispensers in each shower stall and towels are provided at no extra fee. Wall-mounted hair dryers are also provided.
Common Spaces
The ground floor reception opens up into a two-level, air-conditioned common area. This ground floor common space -- filled with low wooden tables and chairs and a long bar with stool seats along a floor-to-ceiling window -- also houses the self-serve breakfast area from 8 to 11 a.m. From here, a semi-covered outdoor patio with coin-op laundry is accessible. On the second floor, which is open "loft-style" to the first, another more intimate casual space is furnished with traditional seating cushions and classic Thai-style triangle pillows. Additionally, there are small sitting areas at the stair landings of each floor level as well as small outdoor balconies.
Breakfast is included in the room rate. At the time of review, the breakfast being served is simple toast with butter and jams, small snack cookies, fresh fruits (bananas), and coffee/tea with sugar and cream.
Summary
HOFT is a very clean, very comfortable modern hostel in a bustling area of Bangkok. It is a good choice for a variety of travelers including students, young professionals, families and couples.
Special note -- this hostel is not handicap accessible. The building is five stories and has no lift, only stairs and they are quite steep. The rooms begin on the second floor. The shared bathrooms are located on the third and fourth floors.
