Hospedaje Magallanes is a small, clean hostel in Punta Arenas with good Wi-Fi and complimentary breakfast.
The Location
This hostel is very well located in downtown Punta Arenas about ten minutes' walk from Plaza de Armas, two minutes from a large supermarket, and five minutes from Bus Sur bus terminal (where buses leave to Ushuaia and Puerto Natales. There is also a bus and collectivo (shared taxi) station right across the road from the hostel, which makes it easy to go to places such as the “Zona Franca” (tax-free zone for shopping). The neighbourhood feels safe and the street is fairly quiet. The entrance to the hostel is a little hidden -- go through the gate and then follow the arrows to the hostel.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There is one six-bed dorm room and a couple of private rooms. The dorm room has an en suite bathroom and there is another bathroom available in the hallway. The dorm room is not locked but there are lockers available in the room. The dorm room has three wooden bunk beds, which are a bit wobbly and squeaky. Also there is some kind of plastic sheet on the mattress, making some noise. There are enough warm blankets on the bed and some electrical sockets are available in the dorm room and in the common room.
The dorm room only has one tiny window, there are no individual lamps for the beds, and there was a funny smell. During my stay the dorm was really cold (outside temperature was ten degrees Celsius) with no heating apparent.
The showers are hot with good water pressure and both the dorm and the bathrooms were very clean.
Common Spaces
There is a large, clean kitchen available for cooking. The kitchen is well equipped with cooking utensils, space for putting away groceries, and a very clean and tidy fridge. The common room holds the reception desk and two tables for eating and hanging out. There are no couches or other comfy seating, but there is a well stocked book exchange. Although this hostel is very small, it feels very social as the small number of guests and the limited common space lead to lots of conversation. A chubby but charming dog roams the property and is always happy to get pets and scratches.

Hospedaje Magallanes is a small, well-located hostel in downtown Punta Arenas. It's a good place to meet fellow travelers and explore the town. The complimentary breakfast is a treat and Wi-Fi works well throughout the hostel.

Location
• We're right down town Punta Arenas. Find the 'Unimarc' supermarket (everybody in town knows it). The street, where the parking lot of the supermarket is at, is called 'Magallanes'. It's a one way street. Follow the direction of the traffic. Find us on the next block on the left side: Magallanes 570. There is a sign indicating our hostel.
• Keep in mind our address, since there is other hostel with quite similar name, so you don't get confused.
