Hostal Casa Aventura

The Review

Casa Aventura is a great hostel for a good price in a nice location. It has spacious rooms, friendly staff, good Wi-Fi, warm showers, and included breakfast.

The Location

The location of the hostel is great. It is worth staying in this area instead of the region that is close to the bus station. Even though it might be nice not having to take a taxi or bus, you will want to stay in this area than in the noisy bus station region. This hostel is situated right in the street of all the graffiti art which is beautiful. Even the stairs to the entrance make a nice photo in your album. Be sure to walk around the area, because you will get to see amazing art work.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorms are spacious and some do not have bunk beds so you will have a whole bed for yourself. There are enough outlets to charge your phone, laptop etc.
The lockers are pretty small and only made for valuables, but you can put your backpack in an open space under the locker.

The showers have a great water pressure. Bathrooms are usually clean - if people do not leave them dirty. And there are enough bathrooms, so there will not be a long queue of people waiting in front of it.

The Wi-Fi is pretty good and seems to be reliable, even in the rooms. You can easily use Skype if not everybody is connected at the same time.

Common Spaces

The kitchen is basic, with a nice view of the hill. There is a dining room with a big table that works great for pulling out your map and doing some research on your trip. The included breakfast is good. You will get eggs and fruits as well.

The staff is friendly and helpful. They can also tell you what to do in Valparaíso and have different options stated on a board. As in probably every part of Valparaíso it can be noisy at night time but it is still ok compared to some other areas. You will need to take a taxi or bus from the main station; make sure you agree on a price with the taxi driver beforehand though, to avoid getting scammed.

Good location
Pretty little hostel with very helpful owners and wonderful breakfast. Some rooms have no windows and are very dark.
Very safe and convenient
I had the opportunity to stay at the apartments which are located at the top of one of the Cerros. The apartment are impeccable, clean, and near the Museos de Cielo Abierto. I was able to walk around and have a home based nearby. The management explained to me with details the opportunities to discover the beauty of Valparaiso, which is always welcome. Once I had my map and some ideas, I was ready to go. The people managing the apartment are always available and friendly and were able to answer my questions in both English and Spanish. I felt at home.

Casa Aventura is a small hostel with a friendly atmosphere. The hostel has a few small dorm rooms which are basic but clean, as well as a kitchen and communal eating area. A free breakfast of mainly fresh fruit is provided in the morning. Since the hostel is small, it is a good place to get to know your fellow travelers. There is no curfew and the hostel is within walking distance of much of Valparaiso's nightlife. The friendly owners are a Chilean and German couple and speak Spanish, German and English. They are able to organize a number of activities including Spanish lessons, walking tours and longer excursions to nearby national parks. Casa Aventura occupies the first floor of a century old building. The rooms are basic but have been recently renovated and painted in bright colors. The hostel is located in one of Valparaiso's old neighbourhoods and given the winding nature of the streets in the area, it can be difficult to find even if you have a map. Unless you're keeping a sharp eye out, it can be easy to walk past the building. From the main bus station, it is a 10-15 minute bus ride (any bus with destination Aduana) to the stop closest the hostel. Get off at the Shell gas station and walk up Calle Urriola. You need to go up the steps on the left hand side of the street just before Calle Alvaro Besa.
