Very Average
From the moment we entered the place it took us thirty minutes to get our rooms sorted, we were just told to sit at reception, without even as much as an excuse or apology when we eventually did get served. After we got our rooms sorted we wanted to surf the internet for a while. We bought the cards needed for this then we found that the internet was not working. this was after ten or fifteen minutes of being told "yes" it was working, when asked if we could get our money reimbursed we were simply told "No." The toilets themselves have a lot to be desired too, not once in the two days i stayed here did the pool of urine in the toilets disappear. I dont have to say anymore about this hostel.
All too new and clinical. Doesnt have a friendly hostel atmosphere, more like a hotel with shared rooms. The room wasnt anything special either. Location -- a bit out of town.
Wow is a great word to describe Coffs Harbour YHA Backpackers Resort. This hostel is brand new. It was built from scratch (it didn't take over a previously occupied building) and opened in December 2004.
All areas of the hostel are immaculate, from the kitchen to the common area to the rooms and bathrooms. Bathrooms are only accesible by key card access and are gender-coded. This means that men can not access the female bathrooms and vice versa. The rooms contain brand-new bunk beds and large cabinets that can be locked if you have your own padlock.
The kitchen has plenty of room for everyone's food. There is a huge walk-in fridge and another regular fridge. The kitchen is always very neat and clean, even during busy times.
The hostel has an overall cheery feeling. The dining room lists the activities for the week. There are quite a few cheap BBQs and other activities throughout the week. The hostel is decorated with photographs and maps of Australia. It is a fun and social place, but it is neither very loud nor was it only a place to party. This is an ideal place for families and backpackers alike. The hostel is within walking distance of the beach. Free parking is available in the back.
I stayed in a double room in this hostel in June 2005. The room was nice enough but it had only one very small light and we couldn't see a thing! For the money you pay for a double, you are MUCH BETTER off going to a hotel. If you are looking for a clean place to stay you might enjoy this hostel, but for fun you should look elsewhere!
This hostel is very, very sterile.
The twin rooms were small, and the bathrooms were very small, with few facilties. The staff were helpful and friendly, which is a bonus. However, beware of having to pay to stay at the hostel after check-out. If you are getting a late overnight bus you have to pay a full night's rent, even if you are not staying. That said, though, the staff are very friendly.
Nice and clean hostel with very friendly staff. Rooms are a little on the small side but I have stayed in smaller. Nice atmosphere.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. The building was clean and bright, as were the dorms, which were also spacious and comfortable.
Mixed opinions of this hostel - staff are lovely and helpful and the location is great for the beach. However, only 2 of 8 hobs work in the kitchen, no kettle or working boiling water supply and we had a small amount of food taken out of our fridge bag by another guest. There were numerous cobwebs in our room and on the stairwell which isnt pleasant.
This hostel and its staff are amazing. Super friendly, great location 5 min from the beach, grocery and bottle shop across the street, organized activities. Came for 1 night and ended up staying 5, perfect place to stop between Sydney and Byron Bay. (Also, the post from the person below is total garbage.)
A staff ended up in my room drunk and having s** on the lower bunk under me keeping me awake from 11pm until 1:30am. I asked the staff to leave several times and was verbally attacked by them both. Staff finally left the room in the morning once I threatened to go find the manager, but I just got out of there asap. Honestly it was my worst hostel experience in over 5 years of travel. I will not be staying at a YHA
Really friendly staff and a nice clean hostel with a good atmosphere...$5 pizza couldn't be sniffed at either...
Had an excellent stay here, hostel manager Daniel is so friendly and helpful along with the rest of the staff. Great location and loads of activities to do! Definitely will stay again when passing through Coffs again!
Great hostel. The staff are all so lovely, especially Daniel the owner. There is lots of stuff to hire and do in the hostel. Only improvement could have been security because the door to our room didnt lock.
Liked: Big, good location Didn't like: Room stank of pot and bad feet
Liked: It was quiet so we got a good sleep which we needed at the outset of our motorbike travels around Australia. It was a great first hostel to stay at so we were impressed and booked then at Hunter Valley YHA Cessnock. Didn't like: Stairs so we had to lug our luggage meaning that we wondered if we were carringing excess baggage!!!!!!!!
Liked: Bright, clean and spacious hostel. Good facilities. Didn't like: Nothing
Liked: Friendly staff and clean public areas. Didn't like: Rooms were very hot. No ac or working fan.
Liked: Comfortable and spacious Ensuite room, clean kitchen, nice pool. Didn't like: Smokers are allowed to smoke outside near to the pool so when we decided to est outside, we had to go back inside because of the smoke. It would be good if smoking were banned ltogether, particularly around food.
Liked: Nice atmosphere, spacious, free surf boards and body boards Didn't like: No free wifi
Liked: Clean, good kitchen, pool, staff Didn't like: Extra pay for WiFi, bikes, surfboards, ...
Liked: More than value for money ! Very green and good looking... Amazing ! Didn't like: ?
Liked: Free surfboards for hire and very friendly staff. Didn't like: Dryer didn't dry the laundry compeletely and the washing lines outside were all full
Close to Beach, good kitchen, near to supermarket. Really, really helpful staff. I burned my finger and they were so helpful and pharmacy across the road. Thankyou!
