Mint Hostel is your stereotypical budget hostel of the Asian capitals -- it has a nice location but is so crammed that you hardly even have any space to turn around and it is absolutely bare-bones without extras or any style at all.
The Location
Mint Hostel is located on Prachatipatai Road, which is basically the biggest hub for budget backpackers in Bangkok. Therefore, you will have hostels everywhere around you with plenty of young people staying. It is a nice area to stay because it is as close to the main sights as it gets in this massive city, but it is still quiet and has a residential feel to it. There are plenty of street food stalls around, so you will definitely not go hungry either.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel offers a huge number of rooms, but definitely lacks the facilities to comfortably accommodate such a number of guests. The dorms are absolutely crammed and the floor is somehow so fragile that if anybody walks across the room, all the beds will be shaking. The cooling is provided by both an air conditioner and fans but the air conditioner is so weak that it will not make any difference even if it is turned to the lowest temperature! On the positive side, there are curtains on the beds, even if it does not make any difference to the upper bunks, as their top part is completely exposed to the light from the room! While the dorms are all on the upper levels, the bathrooms are on the bottom floor. There is only four of them, so expect queues. They are quite old, the shelves are broken inside, and everything looks rundown and dirty.
Common Spaces
There is only a tiny common area on the bottom floor, which is always bursting to the seams with people! There are a few benches here and a TV and you can make tea and coffee or use the microwave. In the mornings, self-service breakfast is available here, but only between 9 and 11 a.m.! It is toast and jam and banana. There is also a separate indoor smoking area, which is a small see-through cabin. There are also a few benches in front of the hostel in the street.
Summary
Mint Hostel is cheap enough to save you some money on your trip, and if you actually manage to sleep under the conditions provided by the hostel, the location and the free breakfast are definitely a bonus as well!

Location
• Mint Hostel is located in Samsen Road Soi 4. The best way to go to our hostel is taxi. Tell the driver to go to Samsen Soi 4. From the top of Samsen 4 alley, you can either walk or take a motorbike taxi down the alley (no cars allowed). Walk about 300 meters and you will see Mint Hostel on the right hand side.
• If you have big luggage, you can tell the driver to go down Samsen 6 alley, turn right at the end of the alley. Then you will see a T-junction. Get out there and walk to the left about 30 meters. Then you will see Mint Hostel on the right hand side.
• FYI, it's only 600 meters to walk to Khaosan Road.
