Bambu Glamping City House is an oasis of calm, tucked away from main roads, traffic, and noise! There is a great backyard with tables and benches, trees, hammocks and two glamorous tents. The check-in process was the easiest we have experienced in Colombia, which is always welcome after a long bus journey.
Located in El Poblado, an upmarket area of Medelln, there are plenty of restaurants, cafes, and bars within walking distance of the hostel. Bambu Glamping is on quiet street so you feel like you are miles away from the hustle of the city centre. You can reach the nearest metro station within an easy, fifteen-minute downhill walk. There are also plenty of buses passing near to the hostel, making the city centre and main attractions easy to get to. The area feels safe to walk about at night, but like always, take care. Most of the hostels are in the El Poblado area, so there are plenty of backpackers wandering around, which makes making friends easy! It's a bit of a taxi ride from the north bus terminal, but most of the hostels are so we don't see this as a problem.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm rooms feel a little small at first, but there are large cupboards for storing your backpack, and there's room on the floor also for keeping your things by your bed. The beds are super comfortable. The pillows are good too! And the best part, the beds have privacy curtains. Another amazing thing is a nice fluffy towel for your stay for free. There are six- and eight-bed dorms and two very glamorous tents as private rooms. The tents come with a very thick mattress, fridge, fan, and storage. There are no locks on any of the rooms, but you have to be buzzed into the hostel at the main door, so security isn't a problem.
The eight-bed dorm has an en suite bathroom, which is massive! The shower has good water pressure and hot water all the time. There are two other bathrooms off of the hallway and a toilet and shower in the backyard. All bathrooms feel homey, as they are decorated well. And they are kept pretty clean.
The common spaces in the hostel are great and they're very clean and tidy. There are two lounge areas, one with a TV, Xbox, and DVD players with plenty of movies to watch. The other lounge area has a big L-shaped sofa with coffee table and book shelves and is perfect for relaxing. There is also a dining area next to the kitchen with a big bambu table and chairs. There are more tables and benches outside. The backyard is pretty big with trees, hammocks, and tables and chairs. We enjoyed breakfast outside most mornings as the weather was so good.
The kitchen is a good size with most of the items you need to cook. After the cleaner has been, the kitchen is beautiful and clean but soon gets messy. But apart from that, it's great.
Bambu Glamping has a great feel to it. It's a popular hostel, so there are always plenty of people staying, and rather than it feeling crowded, it feels homey and friendly. The staff, when we stayed, were amazing, very present, and always happy to help with anything you need and they joined in with the fun most nights! Plus the owner works there. It's not a party hostel, but because of the great common areas, there are always people hanging out, chatting, and having a beer or two.
