The Hostelz.com Review

City Circus Athens is an amazing place to stay in Athens! It is extremely clean and also very comfortable.

The Location

City Circus Hostel has a good location, about a five-minute walk from Thissio Station; it's a ten-odd-minute walk to the Monostiraki Square, which is at the heart of the city. Majority of the good things to see are within walking distance from here and there are ample amounts of food and anything else you might need close by.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms here are immaculately clean and the beds are the most comfortable beds you will ever sleep in. The mattresses are firm but cuddly and you won't want to get out of bed in the morning. The bathrooms are ensuite and are also super clean and nice. The showers have good pressure and hot water.

Common Spaces

The common spaces for the hostel include a large, open area with a huge table and chairs and some couches and chairs for lounging as well. This is where you will meet and find most people if not in the restaurant/bar downstairs. There is also a kitchen that is large and spacious, but lacks a stove for cooking. It does, however, have a fridge, microwave, and a sandwich toaster -- which is sufficient given how cheap food is in Athens. Also off the dining area upstairs, they have the famous Circus photo booth where you can dress up and take pictures of yourself. Upstairs on the third floor, there is a terrace with a view over the Acropolis for you to enjoy with a beverage or two.

Downstairs in the hostel is a restaurant, where you get a discount for being a hostel guest. Every night pretty much you get a free glass of wine at happy hour between 7 and 8 p.m. Some nights they run tastings of the local spirits or a pub crawl. These events provide great ways to meet people. The restaurant also serves breakfast in the morning. If you book through the hostel itself, they do breakfast for free but they don't, if it's through a third-party site.

The hostel also has tours that you can book if you ask them at the front desk for a load of different places around Greece.

Summary

This hostel is social without being a total riot. We literally would not stay anywhere else in Athens!

Comfortable, easy location. Almost a hotel The Location The hostel is in between Monastiraki and Thissio subway stations, a 8-10 min walk to either stations. Close to the hostel you may find several bars and restaurants to choose from. The first time may be a bit hard to find the hostel, but should be the only time. Very convenient location and safe. There will be a big variety of choices for restaurants, snacks, bars and nightlife entertainment. From Syntagma square, you can virtually reach any point in Athens, so it is best place to find whatever you need for your trip and your local SIM card in Vodafone. Rooms and Bathrooms There are both room with ensuite bathrooms and independente bathrooms from the bedrooms. All rooms are very spacy with balcony, and very safe luggage storage under the bunk beds (not the flimsy type of hinges). Well equipped bathrooms with hairdryer. The rooms have very fast wifi access, maybe something that is lacking are individual lighting for the bunk beds and electric outlets for each bed. Try choosing independente bathrooms if they are available. The rooms with no ensuite bathrooms would be less influenced by the steam and any smell that may come from the bathroom. Common Spaces The lounge room is amazing, with a lot of books, guide books, board games, big common table and cozy sofás where you can just chill or watch movies during movie nights. Very fancy and modern design on the common rooms and you have access to the restaurant that is in the groundfloor. It is an upscale restaurant with very nice drinks and food. There is also an open air space on the rooftop where you get a great view of acropolis. Summary The best hostel I have ever stayed in my life. Great interior design, clean bedrooms big balcony and amazing staff. The localtion is suitable for visiting all tourist locations such as the acropolis, the acropolis museum and if you ever need to go somewhere farther away, you will have access to 2 different metro lines. If you only have one big luggage, suggestion is take the airport bus to syntagma square and then just walk 15 min down the street to get to hostel. The facilities are so comfortable that you might meet people that have lived weeks if not months straight in the hostel.

Amazing place
The room is clean and big, with a little balcony, and is very safe, with door card. Common room is very nice, providing table games, chess, magazines and books, a very good place to meet backpackers. Breakfast is very nice, with fruit, yogurt, milk, tea, juice, ham, eggs, and bread. The bathroom is clean, with mirror and can be locked. Recommend this hostel.

Excellent beds, great big rooms, nice hostel but people aren't social!
The hostel itself is really well equipped with comfortable new mattresses, large rooms, clean bathrooms and a really good atmosphere overall. Unfortunately the people who stay here are not too social and I don't mean social in a party sort of way, I mean social in terms of just starting a conversation. Also the instructions on how to get to this hostel on their website are rubbish! Just take the train directly from Airport to Monastiraki and then walk all the way down Ermou (you will need to turn left on Ermou if coming from Monastiraki station main entrance). At the end of that road turn right and just as one of the locals where sari street is.

Excellent stay
The place was spic and span, with very nice owners and receptionists. Place was 5 mins walk from Monastiriaki which has a nice flea market and near Acropolis (which is where most people will go for visiting). Stayed in a 6-bed dorm that had huge beds. Only thing in the room that i felt was lacking was that the beds on the top deck did not have their own socket points to charge their electronic equipments.

"Can't wait to go back!"
We loved our stay at the city circus hostel and can't wait for our next visit. An eclectic bohemian haven in the heart of a gently gentrified hood, this place is a wonder. Brooklyn-esque quirks, brand new linen and super clean facilities would be enough, but it also has a rooftop for lazy beer drinking in the night while watching the Acropolis. The location is awesome, about 5 minutes from the old city centre (Monastiraki) but in an area full of its own little bars and cafes away from the more touristy bits. More than anything, the owner, Nondas was full of great ideas for interesting historical sights as well as outrageously cool nightspots. We spent many an hour chatting to him about Greece, partying, politics and life and he treated us like an old friend.

Beautiful, comfortable, friendly
This is a brand-spanking-new, well-built hostel. Seriously well-built. The rooms are nice -- I stayed in a room with four bunk beds, four spacious lockers, and a private (to the room) bath/shower. Breakfast is included and is delicious, made up of yogurt, honey, granola, with (almost?) every component coming from the hostel owner's mother, friend, directly to the hostel. The only drawback is that it's not in the very best part of town, but it's only a short walk from a lot of the ancient digs (ha!).
