Yes! Porto Hostel

The Review

Yes! Porto Hostel demonstrates that the mere basics done well can mean the difference between clean rooms, hot showers, and good location and exceptional rooms, lovely showers, and superb location. Recently open as of this review, the hostel in the heart of Porto, which is staffed by a heartily friendly troop of willing and able staffers and cook, provides all the necessities in a rather compact space for a budget price, which includes a nice, all-you-can-eat breakfast of meat, cheese, rolls, toast, butter, jam, Nutella, cereal, yogurt, coffee, tea, milk, and juice.

The Location

Porto is a highlight of any Portugal trip, and Yes! Porto Hostel is easily accessible from either Porto Airport (a simple metro ride away) or the train station which is within walking distance. If driving, parking is difficult; but with some creativity and diligence, free street parking is achievable. The town itself is a mix of wonderful bakery/cafes and, of course, port wine cellars. The local experience is easily found and the character of locals, while sometimes profoundly yet humorously gaunt (a serious problem suffered in Lisbon) is often more welcoming than not. Just don't expect smiles returned publicly.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Dorm rooms are mixed-sex double-bunks, well thought out for limited space but total functionality, including diffused lighting so as to not disturb sleeping travelers and individual reading lights per bed. Lockers are stowed beneath the bunks with their own electronic locks or traditional hinges if you prefer to use your own. Beds are clean and comfy, and access to lockers as well as the rooms are by electronic bracelet. The mixed-sex showers are fashioned with large, overhead rain-style shower heads with good pressure and hot water. The stalls are spacious and clean. Toilets are a little bit cramped, but clean, functional, and well supplied. Rooms are not wheelchair accessible, so be prepared to hike a few flights of stairs.

Common Spaces

The kitchen is clean, small, and basic while spacious enough -- yet it is only really meant for one cook at a time. Dishes and cookware are good and a microwave and proper stove (burners and oven) are at the ready. There is a well-organized refrigerator and freezer for guest use. In the common room, a large HDTV is provided, as is PlayStation and two large flat-panel iMac computers for all looking down to the cobbled streets below. Wi-Fi is swift and there is always beer on tap. Meeting other travelers seems easy here, and the staff contribute to the hospitable atmosphere.

This is the new gem of Porto, where another guest's late night welcome shot is swiftly downed while others can sleep through undisturbed. Easily accessible, Yes! Porto Hostel will keep travelers longer than they had originally planned due to its charm, grace, and the excellent accommodation.

Great staff, great facilities, great food
The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and I enjoyed getting to know them even though it was just one day/night. The facilities were excellent, full kitchen, a well stocked little bar, free wifi all around the hostel, comfy beds, great showers. really fun vibes and got to know everyone staying here over the great dinner they provide for quite cheap including drinks. excellent location, close to some beautiful sights and the main train station são bento. If I'm ever back in Porto I will definitely be staying here unless I get a free couch to crash on instead.

Everything is good.
Environment, people and all the facilities are excellent, but it is a little bit noisy at night because of its location. But it is bearable. Recommend to stay here!

Great Facilities with Appalling Wi-fi
This hostel was great for sleeping and was clean, but the wi-fi was awful. I stayed for 5 nights, and for 4 of those nights, the wi-fi simply did not work. However, everything else was great and if you don't mind staying off the Internet for quite a while then this hostel is really goood.
