Arcadia Hostel is a smaller hostel located up the hill at the top of El Poblado. While it is a short walk from the main action, it is on a nice quieter street in the safest neighbourhood of the city.
The location of the hostel is decent but not ideal -- it is in the best part of the city, with all the best restaurants and nightlife (around the Parque Lleras area) well within walking distance. In spite of this, it is located up a hill, around ten minutes from the main action, in contrast with its competitors that are based much more centrally. This also means that a walk to the nearest Metro station (to connect you to the main tourist sights of the city) is twenty-five minutes' walk, rather than fifteen minutes from the other hostels.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm beds are reasonably comfortable and adjacent to the beds are huge lockers that can secure your large backpack. There is a potential cleanliness issue in the hostel. We personally saw a condom wrapper down the side of our dorm bed. The toilet in the dorm room also didn't flush for an extended period during our stay. Otherwise the showers are reasonable, delivering hot water at a good pressure.
The common spaces are small but adequate. The TV room in front of reception has a large TV and a few sofas. Drinks are available from reception at a fair price. They are also happy to help book any tours you may wish to take. A free breakfast (which consists of make-it-yourself pancakes and coffee) is available daily in the small kitchen upstairs. Outside is an individual hammock with a few wooden benches, and some cushioned seating. This is the main communal area where people hang out, but it is under a veil of cigarette smoke most of the time. Back inside is a wealth of tourist information along with two communal computers with internet access that are free to use.
Arcadia is a reputable hostel with a friendly vibe with well-informed staff that all speak fluent English. The size of the hostel makes it easy to meet others and so would be a good option if you are looking to meet friends with which to explore the city.
