Queen Elizabeth Chelsea Pub & Hostel Reviews

Queen Elizabeth Chelsea Pub & Hostel is surprisingly not that bad, considering that it’s one of the cheapest places to stay in London. However, if Chelsea Football Club are playing, expect a loud and rowdy night as the hostel doubles up as a Chelsea FC pub. You will definitely get at least a few backpackers here, but as with all cheap London hostels, you will probably find that most guests are workers looking for a cheap bed. As a result, the atmosphere will likely be dead if there is no football on. It’s a forty-minute underground ride and a walk away from the main London sights, but there’s a twenty-four-hour reception desk if you’re arriving late.

The Location

It's located a fifteen-minute walk from the nearest underground station (Fulham Broadway). Turn right as you exit the station and walk to the first junction thirty meters ahead. Turn left here and follow the road for one kilometer until you reach a T junction with houses on the opposite side. Turn right and walk until you see a shop called Valet Vite. Turn left here and down Bagleys Lane. Follow this road for approximately two minutes and you will see the hostel on your right.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The smaller dorms are very cramped but contain large beds with comfy mattresses. This is also the case for the large dorm, but it’s definitely not a room in which you will want to spend any length of time. It’s messy and packed and you will need earplugs due to the amount of people staying. Each dorm has a lock that requires a code, but security is an issue. We recommend you don’t leave anything valuable in the dorms, especially when there are loads of secure lockers downstairs right in front of the bar (bring a padlock though). When entering the toilets you’ll either find them blocked or you’ll block them yourself and have to make use of the plungers provided. These's not many of them either, so you’ll have to wait for one on most occasions. This goes for the showers too as we only found four in the building. When you do eventually get in one though, you’ll find that they are powerful with constant hot water.

Common Spaces

This is divided into two. On one side, there is a large bar decorated in football flags with TV screens scattered around. The drinks are cheap for London, but you may not find lots of backpackers here drinking -- you’re more likely to find locals and football fans. At the other end there's a sitting area with a TV, fridge, and a microwave you can use. Whilst this is a comfy area to relax, there’s a much nicer and tranquil park you can escape to just down the road toward the underground station. Moreover, as this is a pub, this isn’t a chilled place you can relax in during the evening. Wi-Fi is strong throughout the building

Summary

This is a rundown pub and hostel, but it’s actually pretty good for the price. You won’t get the typical hostel vibe that the more central hostels offer, so meeting people will be difficult, but if you’re not looking for that then it will do, as long as it remains one of the cheapest hostels around. Try to avoid the large dorm unless staying just one night, and if you come on a day Chelsea FC are playing, expect loud noise, as it is a pub after all.
