Great Location
Very convenient to the train station, water bus, and bus station. Clear, easy to follow directions on how to get there. The hostel was clean and reasonably comfortable. Both the beds and breakfast were basic, but there wasn't anything I felt was lacking. I'd definitely recommend it.
L'Imbarcadero is a very clean hostel.
L'Imbarcadero is a very clean and nice hostel. It has 3 bathrooms and all are very new and clean. The location is close to Train Station. And it is one of Ferry stop for No.1 and No. 2 Ferry. The staff (Hei) is nice and helpful to everyone. I enjoyed my stay there on January 23rd, 2012.
L'Imbarcadero overlooks the grand canal and is a very short walk from the train or bus station. It is a quiet hostel and not very sociable. The location is great if you don't want to be surrounded by tourists and hassled every time you step out of the hostel. The Location It is just a five-minute walk from the train station and bus station and a twenty- to thirty-minute walk to Piazza San Marco. It is tucked away on side streets that are not very well labeled, so expect to spend a little more time finding the place the first time. It's not very well marked either, just a small sign on the door. The neighborhood is quiet and not mobbed by tourists. There is a water bus stop less than a hundred feet from the hostel that services all of Venice. Rooms and Bathrooms First thing you notice upon walking into the rooms are how spacious they are. There are no bunk beds, only single beds, either five or six to a room. There are no door locks to the individual bedrooms (of which there are three), but there are two locked doors between the inside of the hostel and the street. The in-room lockers are a decent size but are rather flimsy and without a large enough lock the handle can be pried open. One room overlooks the grand canal but plan on being woken up around 6 a.m. when the supply boats are out and about and honking their horns. There are three bathrooms, one of which is a shower only. The showers in all of the bathrooms are small but not cramped and outside of the shower stall there is plenty of room to change. There are shelves or counter space in each of the bathrooms for clothes and towels and shelves in the shower stalls to place your soap and shampoo. Common Spaces There is a kitchen, a dining area, a sitting room, and a TV room. The kitchen is roomy, with a table and four chairs in the center. The refrigerator is clean; there is one stove and enough plates and silverware for everyone in the hostel. The dining area is just large enough for the table and chairs set in it and it is difficult to get in and out if other guests are sitting at the table. There is one computer for general use in the hallway to the kitchen and dorm rooms. The sitting room is a small nook off the main hallway with two comfy stairs. The TV room is farther down the hallway and had enough room for four or five people. The book exchange is in the TV room, but it is small and full of Italian books. Luggage storage is downstairs between the door to the outside and the door to the dorm rooms and kitchen and only the staff have the key. With so few beds available in the hostel, there is not much interaction between guests. In the morning breakfast is available in the dining area but that will probably be the only interaction with other guests. There is not much social interaction between guests and other than the kitchen, not any area in which to interact in. Summary This hostel is a great place to sleep and to make meals in. It is not a place to meet other travelers or make as a base for partying at night. It is clean and spacious and no room in the hostel feels crowded.

Fun, convenient, good experience
I had a good time here. The location is great, just across from the train station and near to the Vaporetto stops, grocery store. I slept very comfortably there, had free internet, and the use of the kitchen. Alex was a great host. He's very outgoing and works hard to make sure everybody is having a good time. I will definitely stay here again if I am back in Venice.

Greatly improved -- new manager
I was hesitant about staying here due to bad reviews. But the photos in another review showed that the Grand Canal location was outstanding, and that won me over. Fortunately the hostel had hired a new manager (Alex) in August 2009 and things are much improved. Breakfasts are more substantial, cleanliness is fine, and the place has a friendly, cheerful atmosphere. A problem with mosquitoes remains -- the manager is considering adding some screens. Ask for a bed in the dorm fronting the Grand Canal -- outstanding view!
