Nestled on the Peruvian coast, Paracas, Peru, is only four hours from Lima and is definitely worth visiting whether you're heading south or even if you need to get back to Lima -- the detour is worth it! It's a quaint beach town, which looks a little rough around the edges, but this is mostly down to the dryness of the surrounding area. The buildings are rustic looking, and many are not completed, with outdoor water tanks and mounds of rubbish piling up. This wouldn't be so bad, if it weren't so hot, as the rubbish attracts flies and dogs; however, do not let you put this off visiting, it's simply worth knowing in advance!
Everything is close together; as it's such a small town, you can walk from the bus station to your hostel in Paracas, Peru, and from one end of town to the other. You'll see lots of wildlife and lots of geological points of interest by doing these tours. The seafood is popular here due the location, and the sunsets are amazing. They have hardly any rain, ever, so be prepared for the sunshine and the heat when staying in Paracas!
