Osh is located in the Fergana Valley region of Kyrgyzstan and is most famous for its large and very colourful Silk Road bazaar, which is one of the biggest on the Silk Road. The bazaar is open everyday, however it tends to be busiest on the weekend. There are also several monuments, Russian churches, and museums to explore in the town. If you like hiking, there are opportunities to hike the Sulamain Mountain, which towers over the city.
There are plenty of accommodation options here, from fancy five-star hotels to guesthouses and hostels in Osh. Some guesthouses even offer dorm rooms, as well as home-cooked meals. Guesthouses offer the best options if you want to get a glimpse in the local life. Another option is a homestay in a yurt (a nomadic tent). Hostels in Osh are the next-best budget option, especially for solo travelers. All Osh hostels tend to have hot-water showers, though the showers also tend to be open in the room with the toilet (no doors or cubicles), so the bathroom floor is usually constantly wet. Some places offer free bathroom shoes for use. The majority of Osh hostels will also have a Western toilet, as well as squat toilets available. Toilet paper cannot be flushed anywhere in the Stans.
