Bourgas does not have many sights but there are several museums -- the Museum of Nature and Science is strongly recommended. Sightseeing can be done in two or three days. However, there are many resorts near Bourgas which are worth visiting -- Nessebar, Sozopol, Pomorie, Sunny Beach, Primorsko, and Tzarevo to mention a few. Bourgas has more than enough bars and clubs, especially in the summer -- but if you look for summer parties, you should head to Sunny Beach, which is only forty kilometers away. There are several buses every hour from early morning until midnight. Bourgas beaches are good and not crowded during weekdays. Needless to say, the best time to visit Bourgas is in the summer; during the rest of the year, many of the clubs and restaurants are closed.
Unlike other Bulgarian cities of its size, which offer many hostel opportunities, Bourgas' choices are very limited (but it's better than a few years ago, when there were none) and not very expensive. Your chosen Bourgas hostel will be very centrally located, close to the beach and the train station.
Train connections apart from close distances are not very convenient, but you have connections to Sofia. The airport offers great connections to many European cities and there are many flights during the summer. It is good to ask your landlord to get a taxi for you when you arrive at the airport to your Bourgas hostel. The chance that you will get overcharged if you take a taxi from the airport on your own is significant. There are many buses that will take you to the city from the airport, which is less than ten kilometers away.
