5 Great location, beautifully clean, fantastic mattresses, individual lockers built into your dorm beds, power showers, toilet paper(!), and a nice chilled atmosphere. This really is the five-star of hostels.

5 Being in Malaysia for seven weeks and in KL for some days, this guesthouse is not the cheapest but it is worth it! It is a very stylish place in a quiet street just behind Bukit Bintang in the golden triangle, and close to the main bus station, so the location is just perfect. The people from Number Eight are very helpful if you need them, and the place is very clean and well taken care for. Our room looked great, as I say very stylish, and so did the rest of the guesthouse. There is a lounge downstairs with comfortable couches, TV, and internet. A simple breakfast is included, although we didn't use it because we are more into an Asian style breakfast. But all very clean and at the same time cozy looking. The only downside to us was the smoking policy, you can't smoke in the room but then again, most people will be very happy with that policy and you can smoke on the fire-exit stairs or downstairs in front of the guesthouse where you can sit at -- again -- stylish tables. We felt safe and welcome, and if we are ever gonna be back in KL (I do hope so, we just loved Malaysia!) we will go back to the Number Eight!

5 Let's be very clear on one thing. I'm not an avid backpacker nor am I a seasoned traveler. I don't even count myself in as a five-star accommodations connoisseur, but when I do move to places to stay for working trips or leisure, I take a very lengthy thought process on room types and rates, location, and above all the level of service from said staffs or people. I take serious care and action when it comes to 'false advertising' in the aspects of rooms' conditions, facilities and I'd never 'sugar-coat' real-life accounts should there be places to avoid with people that can't even properly put up a genuine smile on their faces when I arrive to check in. I'm a casual and relatively a time-constrained guy when it comes to 'checking into' places, so which is why when every time I do, I don't gamble on cheap rates alone, just to risk experiencing a haphazardly and shoddily done rooms with staffs who'd only care and pray that I'll be able to just sleep over that. Had enough of previous 'lessons' in the yesteryears to be as apprehensive as I am now. Likewise when it comes to 'star' rated accommodations. I don't pay premium nightly rates, just to have an almost incessantly, unnecessary room visits from overzealous housekeeping crews even when the do not disturb sign had been evidently placed. I don't care too much nor am I too fussy about so-called international themed house restaurants or cafes for any included free breakfasts. 'Star' rated hotel chefs can't save me from the dreaded, less than intelligent or almost apathetic staffs that can't even entertain verbal questions properly, let alone if they're able to serve. This is my ministry on Vinay (Vin), the designated front desk/night auditor (on rotating shifts with Khairul) at No.8. The first time I'd arrived, after excursions to other budget lodgings, I wasn't looking into for a straight check in, but rather to assess the available accommodation types and the facilities. It is a part gamble on my part, as I was looking around for a good one nighter and for places that I will frequent regularly for short stays in this capital city of my country. The first excellent impression that Vin had casted over me was that he'd immediately recognize that I'm a first-timer to No.8. Instead of the usual, yet increasingly irritating "How many nights are you planning to stay Sir?" first question by most Malaysian hotel/B&B fronts, he wasted no time in introducing himself and was quick to guess if I'd come to 'prospect' for a guest tour of the place, rooms and facilities. There wasn't any quick call outs to other staffs (he was alone anyway. another thing that had amazed me and shed me light that No.8 does have an able person to run things in his/her designated shift) to quickly 'cover' yet to be seen 'horrors', speculatively from shared baths/showers or other 'areas of concern'. To which I'd gladly participated in a jovial manner and Vin's fully earnest show in showing me the available rooms (he was quick to be specific of 'unavailable' rooms for show, due to staying guests in those at the time. another top mark for guest services and privacy protection for Vin). He didn't cook any lame excuses when I asked to see the dorms (I was testing if he was too eager to have 'another' new guest for a check-in, it was already 10 p.m. when I'd arrived at No.8) but he did frankly told me that it won't be appropriate for him to show me the dorms, in case that we might disturb snoozing guests there and proceeded the invite to me if I was free to come the next afternoon to have a look see and it'll be a what you see is what you get time. I just smiled at Vin's suggestion and by the time the short tour ended back to the front desk, I took a seat and Vin was generous and went out of his way when I asked for full photos of the other rooms that we couldn't get in before, explained thoroughly on house policies of rooms switching and covered the advancing days on rooms' availability. He was able to retain his friendliness instead of pressuring or 'artificially' sell me the idea to quickly close the deal. The clincher came when he offered me to have a seat on one of the designated smoking areas at the front courtyard, to think things through while soaking up the ambiance. And that did it for me. So the day after the next, I placed a call at 2 p.m. and Khairul was on hand to entertain my call. It was a smooth and quick convo that secured me a place for one night at No.8's Boutique Double En-Suite. I'd arrived at 2:45 p.m. for the full check-in. Khairul made the personal touch with no needed request from my end by having proceeded to collect two house towels for me and had swiftly showed me the way into room 8B. Told me "Breakfast' at 8 a.m. and it'll be nice if you join us" with a smile and off he goes. All said and done, Vin, Khairul and Room 8B of No.8 had made its way to my ' must stay at list.' I'm a newfound believer and a recent 'local' guest of No.8. But being Malaysian, it's safe to assume that I hold great appreciation and am aptly cultured in excellent hospitality, courtesy and politeness, as natural traits of ours, most Malaysian citizens. So to have one to comment on a fellow yet a B&B establishment of the same nationality, should speak volumes. And 'guests' of Malaysia aka foreigners/tourists/backpackers may take this review in a lot of good light to be rid off doubts and anxiety when it comes to No.8.

5 On my way back to Singapore from KL and having bad bouts of withdrawal syndrome, I fought hard not to clamber off the coach and hail a cab back to KL. It wasn't because of the Petronas Towers or the great bargains at Petaling Street that made me feel the way I felt. That urge to want to return was most probably present because of one tiny hostel that will forever be etched in my memory. It's hard not to fall in love with Eight -- the decor, so minimalistic, yet so chic and modern, makes any visitor feel special, excited yet welcomed. The service is close to flawless for a budget hostel with the management crew being so hospitable and polite at every one request. Their rooms are extremely well furnished and clean; from the standard doubles to the six-person dorms. The open living-room family concept of the hostel allows for great interaction within the guests. In fact, each guest will naturally feel like they are part of an extended family of happy people. I can guarentee that never once, will your privacy, or your comfort level be compromised. And yes, the hostel is dead near to all the major shopping vicinities of KL. Bukit Bintang, Petaling Street, etc. A short walk and you'll also reach Jalan Alor -- the best roadside food market in town. In fact just outside the gates of the hostel is an extremely yummy beef noodles hawker stall. I highly recommend that all guests savour a bowl of it. There is an aura, a magical allure of Eight that captivates each person that walks through their gates. Forget the Ritz -- if you want to make your trip truly unforgetable, stay at Eight.

4 This place was like the five-star of hostels. It was very modern and very clean. But most of all, it looked and felt really good -- the dorms were the most luxurious dorms i've ever stayed in. The mattreses were thick and clean (i even got turfed out of my room to another dorm just for its monthly mattress clean! Never seen that before). The pillows were white and fluffy. A choice of AC or the fan. Big lockers right next to your bed. A nice little night light and shelf thingy all built in so you dont disturb your neighbour. Great design in dorms for privacy (as much as privacy goes in a dorm). Nice staff. The only reason they dont get an excellent is because i've met much more interactive and helpful staff (not to say that these wern't) and i had to go outside for a shower (although the shower area was nice and clean and covered). I stayed longer just because it was so nice.

5 It was well located in the city of Kuala Lumpur where you can just walk around. Even though I stayed for two nights, I had a good experience staying there. The place is clean and feels like home when you are hanging around at the lobby. The staff there was helpful and the place was really great. I would recommend any travellers to stay there. Reallly I hope that I could come and bring my family and friends together in futures.
